OP, so rev-matching into second still results in a massive jerk? If you accelerate to 40mph in first, should be close to 6k rpm +/-. Shifting to second gear should be 4k rpm +/-. A big jerk is probably due to you either keeping the rpm too high, or letting it drop too low for your speed when...
