Hi I currently have this ford preformance m5200-m8 borla exhaust from a s550 without active. I’m looking to install it on my s650 which comes with active exhaust. Borla customer support says it is capable of active exhaust mode as long as I swap the OEM actuators onto the ford preformance exhaust. I have very little knowledge of working on cars and just wondering where the actuators hook up to?? Thanks and sorry for the stupid question

I'm not sure how this would ever bolt up to an active exhaust mustang. The active exhaust has valves built into the muffler tips themselves that are controlled by an actuator that is attached to the muffler for active exhaust systems. However, the one you have from the s550 doesn't have the holder for active exhaust nor was it built for active exhaust (doesn't have the valves within the muffler tips), so you wouldn't be able to use active exhaust anymore. I think what customer support means is you'd have to make sure the oem actuator (which gets signal from the choice you make on the screen) is still attached to the wire otherwise you'll probably get an error code/message saying active exhaust isn't available. Not only that, from other posters and vendors, the s550 active exhausts don't even fit on the s650 due to the actuator orientation being different. Doesn't matter since the s550 exhaust you have is not active.

TLDR: not sure what the customer support is saying, but im pretty sure if you install this exhaust from the s550, you will lose active exhaust functionality

Could it be Borla Cust. support misinterpreted what you told them?

On the Focus RS, all of which came with a less sophisticated (than our Mustangs) valved exhaust; Borla offered valve and non valve capable replacement cat back exhausts. The valve capable system came with fittings just behind the exhaust tips that you could bolt the OEM valve actuators to (what @kagemusha2662 described above). Then all you had to do was reconnect the OEM valve actuator dongle to the valve actuators.

There's no way you're going to mount OEM Mustang valve actuators to that Borla in your photo without some SERIOUS drilling, milling, sawing, cutting, and swearing!

My point being; if Borla offers a valve capable exhaust for out GTs; the person you spoke with may have misinterpreted that's what you've got.

Hope you get it sorted OK!

Not a stupid question. My first impression is: Why that you paid almost 1000K for the active exhaust would you want anything but it's sound ? I like the fact that I can select between sounds and that it sounds so good. Do you not like the factory sound ?

you can keep the active exhaust functionality with aftermarket exhausts that are designed for it; my personal opinion is i think the stock sound of the s650 v8 is too quiet, so res delete or an active catback system would make it a lot better IMO

The exhaust pictured will not work for you if you want to keep active exhaust.

Cause you can make it sound even better with an aftermarket exhaust and still select different exhaust modes.
