I want to PAINT my rear decklid with the traditional Mustang blackout.

My problem with paint, though, is getting it DARK enough. In the pictures below, you can see that the standard Ford Shadow Black/Absolute Black paint is nowhere near as dark as the black on the tail lights. I think they need to MATCH as closely as possible.

I know that they sell plastic overlays, but my car is Yellow Splash. There's a VERY good chance that it'll show around the edges in between the trunk and the tail lights. Plus I'd probably have to drill holes for the emblem. And it STILL won't necessarily be black enough. (See the yellow car below, which is a sales photo for a plastic overlay).

Should I be able to just point this out to my paint guy and tell him to do his best? (It's the dealership... I don't want him to just say "the heck with it" and grab a can of stock Ford black off the shelf).

Surely I won't need one of the new ultra-blacks like Vantablack to achieve this...? I've heard those are not only expensive, but possibly illegal in some places?

So is there a nice, dark black paint code anyone can suggest that I can pass on to my painter? It's going to be wrapped AND ceramic coated, so that should help add a little of the "depth" created by the black on the tail lights being underneath a thick layer of clear plastic.

...Or is there a better alternative? (A wrap?)

To accomplish what you are looking for, I would just find someone to vinyl wrap the area gloss black.
So true, @Crew4991. Gloss portrays a darker than satin, semi-gloss, matte look.

I've seen some gloss wrap on the decklid back panel which seemed to visually fit properly...just like I wish Ford had done. Actually I've found the body-color decklid back panel to be the most "repulsive" view of a 7G for me. But when I saw the gloss wrap...I'm okay with the 2024...with that minor aftermarket change.

On a side note...While the Mustang nose has also been a sticking point for me, when I began realizing the front end had some "ode to the 6G Mach 1" looks that I like, I'm now good with the 7G visually.
