Brand New 7th Gen Marring Inside Hood

Just bought the car yesterday and of course this isn’t something I noticed when picking it up. Call me OCD because I probably am. This is inside the engine bay by the passenger side air filter. I just bought the car yesterday any ideas on how to best tackle this? I can’t tell if there is any rust in the scratch “I would hope not” but I want to make sure I treat it and cover it in the right way. Is a touch up paint pen my best option and turning on the car to let it dry my best option? I have attached a screenshot from a video I took. Any aspiring detailers help would be appreciated thank you.

For the lightly scuffed areas, top right, you can probably polish those out. I would polish the whole area to level things down, then wipe over with a prep spray like Eraser or IPA.

For the deeper scratch where it's gone through the paint, check out Dr. ColorChip. I've selected Grabber Blue on your behalf -

For the lightly scuffed areas, top right, you can probably polish those out. I would polish the whole area to level things down, then wipe over with a prep spray like Eraser or IPA.

Thanks for the replies. As a previous owner of a brand new 6th gen gt it’s upsetting to see this on a brand new vehicle. I had the car setup for ppf and ceramic coating on Monday only to find this last night. The dealer that I made the purchase with is an 1hr 30 mins from my home. I will be consulting my local ford dealer to get an understanding of what I can do because this is unacceptable.

My concern was not just to cover it up. I can’t tell if there is any evidence of rust in the scratch. From reading I understand that treating it before covering it is an important step. I plan to build this car and have it for atleast 5-7 years potentially longer. I will be updating the thread with my local dealers response and the selling dealer’s response once I reach out to my salesman.

My local dealer confirmed what I saw but instructed me to call my selling dealer as they would be able to make a claim for me. Salesman is seeking answers right now. What a freaking bummer.

Salesman states Ford won’t cover it due to the location of it not being exterior damage.

Because the dealer will make it worse they dont care. They will get pennys on the dollar to fix it. Use common sense, fix it yourself or pay someone to fix it correctly. I've worked at many dealerships. Peace of mind. Yes it may be documented, you'll never win. Enjoy the Mustang, it's still a mass produced vehicle.

Hood is aluminium. Will not rust the same way as a steel hood. The bare spot needs a primer. I'm not sure on your abilities. I would mask all areas off and spray. You can go to an auto paint supply which can mix paint and put it in a spray can. It won't take much paint. The extra can be used in the future. Sometimes you are better off doing things yourself. Some dealers don't have a paint shop and farm out the work.

Would you say this Dr ColorChip system does a better job than using the Ford touch up paint that we get from the dealer? I have two paint chips in my hood that are all the way down to the aluminum that I need to fix. I have some touch up paint from the dealer but I'm wondering if this Dr ColorChip might do a better job? Just wondering what yours and others' experiences are between the two? I've been putting up fixing these chips as it's something I've never done before and I want it to turn out great.

Touch up paint pens or the little bottles with the brush simply fill the chip or scratch. The Dr.ColorChip is way better because you can level it down with the SealAct blending solution to be an almost imperceptible repair.

If it is a new vehicle, it is covered under warrant. Sales people don’t know squat. The local dealer should fix it by regulation, but if they want to be an ass about it, they have the advantage. Just make sure that it is fixed by a reputable body shop that is certified in aluminum paint repair. This is why it is important to select the dealer as well as what car you buy.

I just went to Ford and bought an OEM paint pen. It’s not my hood. It is by the passenger side airbox.
