Hey everyone,

I got the first oil change at the dealer two weeks ago. I decided to check the dipstick earlier this week and again today and I am noticing that there is only oil on one side of the dip stick. Not the side with the markings. I did multiple dips and wipe the stick off each time. The dealer receipt said they put 10 quarts in. The car seems to be driving fine. Should I go buy some oil to add it to the engine?

Thanks!

Only thing I noticed after my 1st oil change (PUP and Motorcraft Filter) was oil pressure seemed high at first, about 100 psi on a cold start, but calmed down to normal after a few miles. Kind of odd but ok.

Before the recent oil change, did it read differently?

Have you changed the way to check the oil?

Checking oil of the Coyote has always been something of a PITA.

When confirming the oil level in my Gen3, I have the disptick's markings facing the engine block.

The excerpt that follows is the procedure as prescribed in the 2024 owner manual. I check it when hot.

Regarding oil pressure, I see same: needle is pegged on the gauge when cold, 20-30 psi when hot.

1. Make sure that your vehicle is on level ground.

2. Check the oil level before starting the engine, or switch the engine off after warm up and wait 15 minutes for the oil to drain into the oil pan.

Note: Checking the oil level too soon could result in an inaccurate reading.

3. Remove the dipstick and wipe it with a clean, lint-free cloth.

4. Reinstall the dipstick and make sure it is fully seated.

5. Remove the dipstick again to check the oil level.

Note: If the oil level is between the maximum and minimum marks, the oil level is acceptable. Do not add oil.

6. If the oil level is at the minimum mark, immediately add oil.

7. Reinstall the dipstick. Make sure it is fully seated.

Note: The oil consumption of new engines reaches its normal level after approximately 3,000 mi (5,000 km).

Note: Increases in oil level can occur from frequent short trips that do not allow the engine to get to operating temperature, as well as frequent idling or low speed driving for long periods of time.

Note: If oil levels are continuously noted above the maximum mark, have your vehicle checked as soon as possible.

Mine does the same thing. Pegged at 100 psi when cold and once it gets to operating temperature it goes back to "normal"

Mmmmm??????

Still on the factory oil, and it reads full on my DS. My only gripe with checking the oil is it's a ***** to reinsert the dipstick into the tube. I have to ensure the DS has either flat side parallel to the block, and use my left hand to grasp the stick about 3-4 inches above the tip to stiffen it (keep it from flexing there); then use both hands to slowly and firmly press the DS into the tube.

Forum: Wouldn't it be easier to give the DS some Viagra to keep it stiff?

Wiley: Oh you guys are engaging rascals, but rascals nonetheless.:crackup:

Did you get full synthetic when they did the oil change (just curious)? Also when you say the dealer changed it was it the actual dealer or the Quick Lane that is part of the dealers (or at least around me we have Quick Lane's that are associated with the dealers).

I got the synthetic blend. I waited until I hit a 1000 miles before getting the first oil change. The service department at the dealer changed the oil. Not Quick Lane.

I checked the car this morning after letting it sit all night. The dipstick showed the correct level. The side of the dip stick with the markings had oil in the middle of the markings. I suppose it takes longer than 20 minutes for all the oil to make its way back to the oil pan.

Glad to hear that the oil is now reading at the correct level. I'm at almost 1600 miles on my GT so going to get the oil changed here sometime. I might call my dealer and see what they charge for an oil change compared to the Quick Lane I normally go to. Hopefully it's the same amount but the dealer might be more money. I'm not thrilled about having someone change the oil on my new Mustang but unfortunately I don't have the set up here to do it.

I rent an apartment so I also do not have the setup to change my own oil. I would feel a lot better if I could so it myself that way I know it was done correctly.

The dealer I bought from gave me the first oil change for free. The receipt said it would have cost $120. I plan to utilize the points you get in the ford pass app for the next oil change.

I always purchased a maintenance plan. Therefore the oil is no charge, windshield wipers, air filters, brakes etc..
Short term, it may cost more.
long-term, an oil change in three or four years won’t be the same as it is now.
