Was prepared to buy a 2024 White GT Premium, with PP, Magneride (they lied it didn't have magneride), active exhaust, 401a, with the red interior and nite pony package.

Got there, and it looked great. Started it up and it was INSANELY loud! It had active exhaust so I put it in quiet mode, and it didn't change a thing.

Had them put the car on the lift, and saw the previous owner replaced the resonator with two straight pipes, and deleted the mufflers. It was so loud I couldn't even hear my passenger.

Anyone have experience with this, curious how would this setup compare to a full cat back?

edit: Dealer tried to say it was normal. 🤣

Cool, I've never heard a cat back before IRL, so when I started it I was like "woah, is this a cat back?"

Glad it's not, but yeah idk why this guy bought active exhaust just to remove it

Years ago, I bought a ’69 Cougar, that some squid at Dahlgren stuffed a 460 into. clearance was VERY tight. It had a 3.90 Posi rear, C6 and despite having mufflers, was the loudest street legal car I’ve owned. Like you explained, at highways speeds, I could see my wife’s lips moving, but all I heard was engine/exhaust. I am talking setting off car alarms loud. OUTSIDE, not in a parking garage. I did really like the car, but we did a short road trip - about 2 hours in it and when we got home we were both exhausted (no pun intended) and sporting splitting headaches.

I’d say that if changing the exhaust mode didn’t do anything, you’d have some work to do to make it livable. And, assuming it’s naturally aspirated it would likely have a pretty significant flat spot or dip in the power curve.

Ummmm no thanks. I am not 17 anymore. Plus it gets super annoying having an exhaust that loud ALL the time.

Edit: Go back and take a 3k discount because of it and just add the mufflers for like $500. Or tell them to install the original exhaust from the factory.

They offered 1k off and I could pay them to install mufflers if I go and buy them

I have a 2024 AVE Mustang. When I first start it up cold, it's a bit loud for 45-60 seconds even if quiet mode is set. After that 45-60 seconds in quiet mode all I hear is the transmission! I run my Mustang in Sport mode 99% of the time.

Just a crappy hack job that looks crappy, sounds crappy, and probably loses power w/o the crossover. Either buy a new cat-back and install or find someone selling their stock active setup (I'd give you my old if you were in the upstate SC area as I replaced mine with the Corsa setup). Either way, cutting/welding will likely be needed since they decided to cut/ weld the mid pipes. Looks like the active exhaust electronics are still there, so that's a positive.

Probably wanted quad tips since they're only available from the factory on the active exhaust.

A "potential' negotiating technique: You'd have to be very smooth in suggesting this, and not afraid of irritated sales staff/management. If you really want the car (I suggest you walk away and find a different one).

You might mention the serious consequences of the Federal and State EPA finding out this dealership was knowingly selling non EPA compliant cars. Which is a violation of section 203 of the Clean Air Act and 40 C.F.R. 1068.101.

"Section 203(a)(3)(B) of the Clean Air Act makes it a violation for any person to manufacture or sell, or offer to sell, or install, any part or component (i.e., “defeat device”) intended for use with, or as part of, any motor vehicle or motor vehicle engine, where a principal effect of the part or component is to bypass, defeat, or render inoperative any device or element of design installed on or in a motor vehicle or motor vehicle engine in compliance with regulations under Title II of the Clean Air Act, and where the person knows or should know that such part or component is being offered for sale or installed for such use or put to such use.

Also, section 203(a)(3)(A) of the Clean Air Act prohibits any person from knowingly removing or
rendering inoperative (i.e., “tampering”) any such emissions control device or element of design.
EPA regulations establish the same prohibitions."

Such violations are punishable by "a maximum civil penalty of $4,819 per defeat device manufactured, sold, or installed, or per vehicle tampered."

The bottom line is the car is ILLEGAL FOR SALE IN THE USA in it's current state. Whether they took it on trade or bought it; it's THEIR RESPONSIBILITY to put it back into Federal and/or State EPA compliance PRIOR TO selling it.

Let me repeat: If it were me; I'd walk away and look elsewhere. If you lean on 'em with that **** above it could get ugly. Or, if you buy the damn thing in it's current state; guess who the felon is then?

Good luck!
