Has anyone in CO installed long tube headers on their s650 mustang GT? Lot of performance shops I call say it’s illegal to install them in CO area. Any work around apart from me installing it by myself?

Any ‘emission’ modification, even when it improves efficiency is illegal according to ‘federal’ regulations. Doesn’t mean folks don’t pull the baffles first thing just means jaywalking isn’t allowed and don’t get caught spitting on the sidewalk. For the most part, no check engine light, no codes, no ‘excessive’ noise, no hassle.

Which is odd since federally some of those ‘smoke’ shops are ‘illegal’

Totally agree with you bro. Since I got active exhaust can drastically reduce the noise within residential areas and for CEL talked to few on the forms who have headers on their s650 GT (different states) they used O2 sensor which helped with CEL.

The difference is that the EPA is actively going after shops that install legal parts....along with manufactures making illegal parts.....

Still waiting for the day one of these places gets raided for making non-compliant parts and then go after the customer list and go after individual consumers next....

It's not that it's possible. It's the thought and the actions that have already happened. Sure, the majority of shops who install headers don't get caught, but what happens if you do? That's the end of your business. Most shops I've talked to in my area say just that, they would be willing, but only if they can guarantee that the customers themselves don't squeal when they get caught by the police. And most shops can't control that, so why take on the risk of losing your business for a difficult and illegal install?

in California they set up stations that test emissions as you drive by… only a matter of time before they start doing other places do the same ….
I would just go boost … more power no worries and easier to sell vs a car with long tubes
