New tires for a 2024 GT +PP/Magnaride

Hi all

I'm currently running the stock Pirelli Pzero run flats that came with the car. I'm only at 5500 miles but a 1300 mile road trip on rough roads really did a number on them so I'm looking to switch them out soon. As I live in an area with 4 seasons the temps will be dropping very soon, I'm thinking either the Contintental ExtremeContact DW6 06 plus all-seasons or the Michelin Pilot Sport All Season 4s. Does anyone recommend one over the other? Should I be getting fun flats again or regular tire? And what is the best tire size? The current 255/40R/19 in the front and 275/40R/19 back is what is currently on it but I would like to go slightly bigger to maybe 275-285s squared, or is it better to keep the two different sizes? I'm really new to all this so I'm kind of overwhelmed, any help is greatly appreciated!

Depends on how much snow and ice you get.

I ran Conti EC DWS Plus 06s on my RS the 3 years I had it. Of course the RS is AWD rather than RWD, so comparing that to a GT isn't exactly apples to oranges. Having said that; I'll endorse the Contis as the best all seasons I've ever driven on. Dry, wet, snow (up to 6 ins----[the RS dragged its belly in anything over 4 ins]) they never let me down.

PS: You want narrower tires for snow; NOT wider!

Not particularly, certainly no worse than your stock tires. Continental ExtremeContact Sport or Michelin Pilot Sport are my recommended tires for enthusiast drivers. I run Pilot Sport on my motorcycles, currently have the Pirellis that came with my Mustang.

I'd generally recommend picking up another set of wheels and getting winter tires over "no season" tires, but you can't go wrong with either of your tire choices, they're both exceptional.

I have had both and to me it is a wash, those reviews are "hard core" and not the norm. Like comparing a Mustang to a Camaro.

Personally I like the Michelin but would not hesitate to buy either

The Pirelli PZeros on the Mustang are not run flat tires.

I have used both the Conti Extreme DWS and Michelin Pilot Sport All Season 4 as a “winter” tire (I live in the south) . They are very similar for daily driving. I would honestly buy whichever one I got a better deal on. All things equal, I just like Michelin tires better.

if you can afford it, I would get a second hand set of wheels and run either the Pilot AS 4 or a dedicated winter tire and then replace the Pirellis with Michelin Pilot Sport 4s.

I actually liked the stock Pirelli PZ4s that came with the car, but not that they only lasted 5k miles. Not sure if the 1000 miles of shit road did it or if that's just how they are, but not even getting 10k miles out of them is freaking crazy ridiculous. I do see on tire rack that Pirelli makes a high performance all season tire as well, so that may be an option too. More worried about driving a RWD vehicle in snow, but don't have a choice on it as this is my daily driver.

Was one quieter than the other?? I like the PZ4s but they are loud at highway speeds

I did not notice but that is a personal preference I guess. No one that has driven or driven in has ever said otherwise though. Now if we get into my Jeeps, that is a different story

Is there really much of a difference with these summer only performance tires compared to the all season performance ones to justify a second set of wheels?? First sports car rwd car so i really don't know. Before this mustang it was always AWD grand cherokees

It really depends on how you use the car. Your profile says you’re in Reno. Definitely don’t drive up to Tahoe in the winter on the stock Pirelli tires. Generally speaking summer only tires, like the PZ4, should not be used below 40ish degrees.

If your car is mostly a daily driver and you don’t really push the limits corner carving in summer driving, either of those all seasons are good all around tires. You can’t really go wrong with either in my experience.

If you’re going to continue with a performance summer only tire you’re going to need an all season or winter tire for the cold/wet months. Summer only tires are dangerous in the winter and you can actually damage them by driving on them in freezing temps.

I have a second set of wheels with dedicated winter tires because I don’t like having to remount and balance tires twice a year. I got a set of factory PP wheels off a S550 (same size as S650) for cheap so it was affordable for me. Makes it quick to swap them whenever I’m ready. If you go the two sets route make sure they clear the PP brakes.

Noise wise I think the Michelin is slightly better, but that’s probably some of my personal bias towards Michelin in general talking. They are essentially even to my middle aged ears.
