Hey yall, i just watched MattAmstrongs video where he does a roadtrip in his Mansory Wraith with a Tentbox on the roof and it got me thinking if this was possible to do with our Mustangs. Does anyone know the roofs max load capacity?

I reached out to Tentbox but they told me, they had never had anyone try installing one of their products on a Mustang, let alone the new one. They don’t have adequate roof bars, so i also looked up SeaSucker’s Monkey bars. They specify that the max load with their bars is 75kg. The tentbox is 50kg and tentbox’s customer service told me : « You do not have to consider the added weight of the people inside the TentBox, as vehicle roof load ratings are for when the vehicle is in motion. The weight limits are much much higher when you are stationary, which is the only time you should have anyone up there anyway! »

So, what do you think? Is this possible?

@Farmer Fran and @onaccountof (too right!) ..... I lived in Europe for 4 years. They put roof top carriers on everything. I wish I had pictures of some of the $hit I saw - just unbelievable until you see it. Where I live, if you got caught with a roof top carrier on a GT yet alone a DH you'd be ............. (fill in your answer). @Aiiress, sorry brother Mustang owner but you ask a question like that here in N.A. and you better have skin as thick as a Rhino's a$$.

People really take their Mustang to seriously. It’s not a supercar. It’s a GT it’s meant to be taken on cruise drives and roadtrips. That’s my opinion. I love my DH but it’s not the fastest on the road.

Maybe not the fastest car, but it will be the fastest camper on the road with a tent box on it. Hell put a lift on it don’t short change yourself.

I haven't camped for many years, but if I were to do so today, I certainly wouldn't strap a tent top on my Mustang! Making things worse, there isn't anything on the car to attach the straps, clip, clamps, etc. to hold it down. Fact is, the way almost all passenger vehicles are made these days, preclude such attachments. This fact sort of limits you to running straps through the door seals! Imagine having to dodge the straps as you get in and out?

To close this out, I have to admit my version of camping is staying at a Holiday Inn, so I'm a bit biased. Assuming I had to use my Mustang, I'd use soft bags to I could move them to the front seat area, fold down the rear seats, and roll out a sleeping bag. Bon Appetite!

IMO, 500,000 caravaners can’t be that wrong, can they? I’d follow the European tradition of connecting a trailer that is WAY too big for the towing vehicle, and set out on the a-bahn!
But, don’t sell the Alps or Dolomite passes short. Riders and drivers secretly love caravaners and tiny Fiat Punto turbo diesels desperately trying to make 45kmh on the down hill straights.

Taking a quick look, I would be very, very concerned about marring the finish in very obvious locations. I’ve used a roof top carrier on one of my wife’s peasant cars and it didn’t leave marks too bad that couldn’t be buffed out.

Lol, i think people forget that GT means Grand Touring, so by definition it could go both ways. A sports car thats a grand touring car. Its like motorcycles, you have touring bikes with side bags and trunk bags, and they have some that are naked. I say to each their own

There's a reason we went to war in 1775 to fight for our independence. Had we not done it then, we'd sure as chit do it now over this idea!
