Purely out of curiosity, why spend that much money on the ecoBoost when you could have just bought GT?

I totally understand people buying ecoboost cuz of the budget issue but with that much modding, it would be close to GT with 401A package.

Because the car hobby is not logical. When I was right out of college, I was doing autocross with my Supra. I kept doing mods even tho I couldn't really afford it and creeping up into higher and more competitive classes and never winning. There was a local guy with a bone stock 89 Honda Civic who was always at least 2 seconds quicker than the next fastest car of any class (including Porsches and all manner of supercars that would always leave embarrased). I'd be back 6 to 10 seconds despite more than twice the power in a car that was marketed as a sports car.

I eventually realized that I would have been better off buying a much cheaper econobox, staying stock and spending my money on getting more seat time like our local champ did. I was trying to outspend my competition, but that wasn't working. I just couldn't resist all those adjustable dampers, rock hard sway bar bushings, electronic boost controllers, you name it. Still tempting even now with the gray beard to match the grey matter.

I think much of it was just knowing that my car was different and more special than the same model next to it in the grocery store parking lot, even tho I personally couldn't make it go any faster. If our OP had bought the GT in the first place, he would have modded that too.

I highly recommend front parking sensors or a camera for your next mod. Protect the new splitter.

Yeah I wanted that too, but got 5k off msrp, and I use this for commute, so 90% of time it’s in traffic, better fuel economy, these mods are cheap, but I agree, GT is on another level.
Also insurance was pretty high for me for GT being a low 20s driver 😝
Finally in short and long term, it made much more sense in my case to buy ecoboost.

GT and eoboost that much different to insure? Paying an extra $10 a month over other cars in house.

ecoboost is enough trouble for me. Add another 125hp and no lag. I drive 110 miles round trip for work through rural roads with potholes and plenty of little rocks to chip paint. Got my base model for $29000.

Keepig mine stock, unless the dealership tune shows up for a reasonable price.

You live in California, hot temps. Bigger intercooler might be worth it. Somebody said tires and wheels. I used to do autocross too. I've been real happy with the stock 18's. Might be good there.

Would like to see if the 18's clear the brembo's. Regular brakes are pretty darn good though. Car stis for 5 months out of the year, so the plain ones might be cheaper in the long run for me.

Yeah unfortunately this is my only car and GT insurance for me was 40% higher (I am less than 25)

for brakes I recently added caliper cover, inexpensive and great looks, wrote a thread here.

This is still a great car in itself. Had audi's, bmws, gto's, a transam, even a 70's meredec benz 240d with a modified 300 turbo diesel. You doing fine with this car for sure.

Tempted to try the intercooler modification myself. Car is in the garage for the winter. But, want to play around with the scan tool and watch boost, ignition timing, and air charge temperature.

Between the audi, bmw, and mercedes turbos, they are worth atleast cleaning out the intercooler once or twice in its liife. Like 40-50k miles for those cars, but newer stuff maybe once at 70 or 80k. Not sure if what they say is true about the intercooler being a limitng factor for these cars. frequent 90 and 100 degree days, that big intercooler alone would be noticeable.

You using high test fuel and found one that the car likes? That alone is like 50hp. Probably 20hp finding the one it likes between what you can get locally.

I usually fill up at costco (91 octane), but on every few weeks I get the V-Nitro from shell (maybe their additives/cleaners will be useful in long run to keep injectors/fuel system happy)

MY motor between 91 and 93 is noticeable. Even when both fuels have ethanol. Takes a few tanks to notice. Could be picing up some more horsepower.

Honestly if getting a mustang it should be a V8.... but after watching the video below, i was surprised and its a quick 4 banger. So im not going to hate on it

I used to be a 4 banger guy for longest time, owned a 2018 WRX before this, so this was a very interesting watch

when I go to Bj's in NY here, there is like a 50-100 car long waiting line for their chep gas. I always wondered what junk they're pumping into their tanks, I sure the high test is alot better Harder to play games there. Costo use a specific brand, or just buyers looing for the best deal of the day?

i go there to get hi test tanquerray so the wife is running right. Definitely save a few buck there. $39 a 1.75 vs 48-60 elsewhere.

I watched the video on mute. However, that mustang has brembo's and Im assuming the active exhaust. No way thats 35 grand or less.

I bought it because it's a detuned sports car. It has more width than an economy car, lower center of gravity, better forward rearward weight distribution. Not too shabby for a soccer mom motor in there either. If I roast the 2.3, I can find plenty in the junkyrad.

I debated buying the subaru and toyota. Seen to many nightmare hyundai problems to consider that line. Oddly enough, with the mazda ford relationship I thought the skyactiv stuff was a ford 2.3 motor.

That light blue aint so horrible. There was a 2023 in that color with a manual trans witk 3k miles and they only wanted 25k for it. Was like 2 hours away and light blue. IT it was closer, I would of took a peek. Not sure I would of bought manual if available. Wife works from home, but its nice to keep the miles off the truck.

Got to admit I debated over buying the V8, Dealers in Washington DC area were selling them for 38 or 39k base model. My commute would destroy 19 and 20 inch wheels. Coworkers often need to buy a new wheel for their car every 2nd or 3rd year, I joke you not, I fill potholes myself. When folks are half way in your lane around a sharp turn to avoid a pothole, 2 bag of pothole filler ontop of a 5 gallon bucket of gravel sounds real real cheap.

Filling her up with high test pretty much eliminates saying your driving an economy car. Focus averages 32 on low test, and I get 29-30 with the mustang. Sometimes I see $4.50 high test and $2.99 low test. Whatever happened to the 10 cents extra. Toyed around the idea of using 89 a bit.

There's a thread discussing this video

it wasn't under 35,000 (it was like 38-39 because of the options it had), it was the only automatic in the test, and you can't even order a 2025 configure that way anymore...
