except the mustang is nothing like the charger (a big sedan), a truck, or a friggin jeep. No matter how many mental gymnastics classes you take

nothing was ignored other than your continued pretending the facts are not laid out. A truck is a truck. A jeep is a jeep. Simple. Number of doors don’t define a truck. That has zero to do with a “two door sports coupe.” You can have a 4 door coupe as weird as that would be. But it wouldn’t be a two door sports coupe, which is what the mustang is.

it makes as much sense as turning the ford GT into a 4 door sedan

The mustang is a 2 door sports coupe and has always been such. It doesn’t need to be anything else.

ford simply wants to sell other vehicles and thinks that calling them all the same thing will somehow help.

judging by the Mach e sales, it’s having the exact opposite effect.
"A jeep is a jeep" 🤷🏻‍♂️

A mustang is a mustang 🤷🏻‍♂️

With two doors or four. My favorite will always be the two door. But if they add two doors to the s650, it's a four door mustang.

Here is a link to a rendering of a potential 4 door "Mustang" that MotorTrend put up on their site

https://www.motortrend.com/files/66...-4-sedan.jpg?w=768&width=768&q=75&format=webp

To me, it looks very Mustang-like, but I do admit, it doesn't have quite the sportiness that the fastback has. That said, I am happy with what this looks like. It's something I would very VERY interested in buying if it had the V8 RWD or AWD (rear wheel biased) layout of the Mustang. To be honestly, it would be number 1 on my current short list of candidates, providing Ford doesn't screw something up like giving it a live axle, a 250 hp I-4 as the top engine, or a FWD layout

It says "Mustang" to me, but like I said...unlike some people here, I don't care what they call it. Mustang Gran Coupe GT, (that's a mouthful) Mustang Mach 4 GT, Mustang Mach 4 DH, Thunderbird, Torino, Falcon, Just "Mach 4" - although this might be too close to "Mark 4" which would limit any Lincoln crossover. Although, put a Lincoln badge on it, give it a high output V-8 like the old LSC versions, and call it a Mark XI and I would be all for it. (just no Continental bulge...seriously, that's just ugly IMO)

Again though, this is the type of car I would love for Ford to make. This is the car I want to buy from Ford. It reminds my of my beloved T-bird (I know it has two more doors), in terms of space.

Just please Ford, make it a performance car too. Don't give us a detuned engine just to keep the Mustang on top in the HP wars. It should get the 500 HP engine at the top end. No V6 TT as a top engine choice. Maybe even give us the top supercharged or (maybe a TT V8 turbo) versions of the Mustang in a limited offering. After all, spreading the development costs is a good thing.

S650 Mustang "Mach 4" 4-Door Mustang + Off-Road Baja Mustang models previewed at Ford dealers meeting! {filename}

“The origins of Jeep have been called "obscure," but a good deal of that has been clarified through diligent research. The primary legend has the name coming from a slurring of "GP," but it didn't mean "General Purpose." The "G" signified a Ford government contract vehicle and "P" indicating the 80-inch wheelbase. Even though the Ford GP was the first jeep to reach GIs in large numbers in 1941, the General Purpose name wasn't Army nomenclature in WWII and only seen on obscure documents.”

Uh-oh, the four door has a larger wheelbase... It's not a true jeep then 😅 Interesting how it got the name though. 👍

Theres a lot more people who either don’t care what it’s called or want it called something else (compared to those who want it to be a Mustang) and that’s why it would be cool and a perfect opportunity to reintroduce a different Icon. There could be so many more possibilities that would be widely accepted from engine choices or variants.

I want Ford to make a performance sedan too because I always thought they could do better than what Chevy offered. G8/SS were cool but they got no love from GM 😂

To me it (the 4 door coupe render) says charger. But otherwise i agree but then disagree regarding the name. They can give the ‘gt’ treatment to any vehicle but to mustangify it would need to lose weight, drop some doors, and gain that sporty vibe.

edit: fix typo loose/lose

I think the main reason they would call it a mustang is because they can share parts. Same interior, infotainment, front end, some body panels, undercarriage parts etc to reduce costs. I think it'd get expensive to build something from the ground up. This will reduce costs on both the 2 door and 4 door.

I don't think there is anyone hell-bent on wanting it to be called a mustang, but everyone understands why. To reduce costs. And as a company you get to brag about how many sales. For example, when the charger gets released they will be adding in 2 and 4 door sales into their totals. If Ford wants to say they have the number one selling muscle/sports car, they have to add a four door option as well.

You can still do it with something else realistically. I don’t think the front end, rear end, and all the components will be all shared from what people said the side view was very Panamera like and the door opening was like the Mach Es, which is kinda the only description we got to work off of.

Yeah with the Charger they found the sweet spot similar to what Ford Australia did with the Falcon, turning it into just a high performance sedan is where its legacy was stamped. It’s weird with the Mustang because it hasn’t struggled really with what it is but the other variant so far isn’t doing what Ford hoped. It’s backwards in a way.

I don't think anyone knows anything yet. But if they share all these parts and looks just like an s650 and called it something else, I'd feel like it'd be a slap in the face to mustang owners, way moreso than calling it a mustang.

I felt that way when the fusion resembled an s550 back in the day.

There was a couple people who attended the meeting that shared what they saw at the meeting on Reddit, even the new Bronco variant. Only thing he said was it was a render but it was low slung, Panamera like with no door handles.

looking back on here someone actually said the same thing from their salesman.

If you can find the post, can you share it? I'd be interested in reading it 👍

I was having so many injector issues with my 550i that I almost traded it in for a Chevy SS. The only reason I didn't was the seats were bad for my wife. As this was our cross country driving car, we needed seats that you could sit in easily for 12-14 hours at a stretch. The Chevy wasn't it.
