I’ve been working on cars since I got my first piece of junk at 15 years old, which I had to share with my sister. That was over 30 years ago, and since then I’ve done a little of everything on my vehicles. I’ve rebuilt engines under the carport including using a cherry picker in the dirt. Fun times as many of you know! Fortunately the last 20 years I’ve had an enclosed garage at my house where I at least could work on the concrete. Still, it gets old rolling around under the car and taking up space in the garage where my wife can’t park her car while I’ve got a project going on.

I finally was able to build a nice shop where I can keep all my tools and work on my vehicles at my pace without being in the way of anything else. I honestly never thought I’d build a shop like this, but I’m excited it worked out. Looking forward to many future projects!

Which is why I don’t plan on posting anything about my shop on Facebook or Instagram. Too many of those people know where I live. 🤣

@krisk what size? My son is building a 40x40. We have one lift but I am going to get another so I don't have to move the other two cars when we need to do work.

I'm jealous. It's surprising how many spare parts, sets of tires, etc., one acquires once getting into road racing. My wish was to have a detached garage for the race car and all the necessities that go with it. After retiring from my 2nd career 2 years ago, I decided to hang up the race helmet as there were other things in life I wanted to do, so the detached garage never came to fruition.

It’s a 30x40. I thought about going bigger, but didn’t want to pay the extra it would have cost. I only plan to have one car in the shop at a time, so it works for me. Of course the problem is all the junk I tend to accumulate, which seems to take up more space than I ever plan.

I expect to do HPDE events for several more years, so having a shop to work on the car makes things much easier. It certainly results in accumulating a lot of stuff. When the kids grew up and moved out we downsized from our 3,000sf house in a subdivision to a 900sf farmhouse that is 100 years old on 5 acres. After significant renovation we absolutely love it. Now I have a shop that is bigger than my house. Now the challenge is to keep it from turning into a junk storage building. 😂

If you stick to just HPDE and stay away from racing or TT, you'll be fine. Once you cross over......the accumulating begins. Enjoy, I did, a lot.

For right now I don't plan to get into racing. That said, I'm currently doing a lot of things I never "planned" to do at one point or another. LOL

Krisk, congrats. Looks amazing and must have taken a ton of work to realize that goal. Enjoy every minute.

Thank you! Sometimes I wonder if all the work is worth it, but then it does allow me to enjoy things like this and having fun with my car on the track. My wife talked me into buying a car just for fun a few years back, which was a first for me after spending 20+ years focusing on providing for my kids. There is a reason so many old people have sports cars and nice shops...the kids are grown!
