Getting an A10

however, I love shifting... Have a Harley, many manual vehicles in the past.

BUT, at 60 years old, 2 left knee operations (and waiting for replacement) no way could I go manual.

Now, if they could have gone REALLY OLD SCHOOL, and put in 4 speed manual shifts (like my first 65 'Stang), I probably would have gone that way. LOL
Roommate just had a couple of Striker knee replacements and the first one is already to the point at 3 months that the knee is like it was 40 years ago. Be careful because the older surgery is more invasive and recovery is longer but a lot of doctors are still using the older knee.

when I need to downshift to say pass a car, I can anticipate the need, determine the timing of my shift and do so in a way that ensures I have the power of the lower gear precisely when I want/need it. As opposed to an automatic that has to get a signal that the accelerator is pushed, the RPMs are climbing and a downshift is required, then it downshifts and can give the power you need to pass a car.

as I said, in a manual I can anticipate the need to downshift given my driving needs before the transmission would even begin to receive any indication that it needs to shift.

does this make sense now?
Jrws1014, (Hope I quoted the correct user ID)
I think you are missing the point of the paddles. Especially, if I want to pass at highway speeds. You can downshift whenever you want, to pass someone, or in anticipation of S curves ahead. I will often do so before there is space for me to make my move. Used to do the same with my manual tranny and had far fewer gears to choose from. When the space is available, I can apply whatever acceleration I need or want. If I down shifted two speeds, trust me, there is no lag. I did this on US22 near Bethlehem, two days ago, and I am sure the cars I passed think they were buzzed by an F16. Nothing like a normally aspirated engine, with a concrete wall next to it. Vroooom.
