Lol! "The Camaro is selling so well", what kind of bullshit have they been eating? Compared to February 2015, the February 2016 sales were down. One Canada it's factored in the mustang out sold the Camaro by 4000 cars in February alone and has a nearly 10,000 car lead for 2016 so far.

Ford if you are reading this here is the wish list for the s650 mustang gt!

Be sure to benchrace the regular gt against a six gen 1le
Be sure to benchrace the gttp or gtpp against a gt350r
Be sure even the loaded premium gt straight line acceleration 0-60 is less than 4 seconds and quartermile at high 11 to low 12 seconds for a manual cause I am a benchracer/magazine racer
Be sure the car looses at least 200 lbs
Be sure to make the magna ride suspension standard
Be sure the car is more aerodynamic and provide the drag coefficient as a proof
Be sure the mpg is increased for both city and highway
Be sure to make the led lights standard
Be sure to include HUD and heated steering wheel as an option
Be sure the premium sound system is Boss equal or better with real 12-14 speaker sound system powered by at least 750 watts
Be sure to get rid off the getrac and upgrade to tremec or better trans
BE SURE THE THUD IS GONE and no it is not normal
Be sure the tranny still shifts smooth below 30 degrees no more grinding
Be sure to use more soft touch materials inside the car
Be sure the body panel allignments are spot on
Be sure the car has at least 19 gallons of fuel tank
Be sure to price it right, it is ok to pay a little more for better quality and performance
Corrected it for you...

I thought the same thing! Mustang is way outselling the Camaro right now. Up or down depends on where you started, Mustang started way higher than Camaro so 10% change does not significantly tell any story.

Ford if you are reading this here is the wish list for the s650 mustang gt!

Be sure to bench the regular gt against a six gen 1le
They should match the SS, not the 1LE
Be sure to bench the gttp or gtpp against a gt350r
A GT PP should be developed against a GT350TP, not an R.
Be sure even the loaded premium gt straight line acceleration 0-60 is less than 4 seconds and quartermile at high 11 to low 12 seconds for a manual
Human error plays into that so that is unrealistic at the price point most want for a Mustang GT. This is somewhat reasonable for a 10 speed automatic though.
Be sure the car looses at least 200 lbs
At what price? 200lbs is a lot, 100lbs is more reasonable.
Be sure to make the magna ride suspension standard
Not only no, but hell no. I don't want that shit on my car, I'd rather have well designed, adjustable coilovers.
Be sure the car is more aerodynamic and provide the drag coefficient as a proof
As if they didn't wind-tunnel test the S550? Okay
Be sure the mpg is increased for both city and highway
You okay with AFM?
Be sure to make the led lights standard
That's probably going to be an industry standard by then
Be sure to include HUD and heated steering wheel as an option
Probably on a premium model
Be sure the premium sound system is Boss equal or better with real 12-14 speaker sound system powered by at least 750 watts
That would be fine on an optional sound system upgrade, not everyone wants 14 speakers crammed into their car.
Be sure to get rid off the getrac and upgrade to tremec or better trans
The Getrag has great ratios for the Coyote, it's just dodgy on quality. Just throwing a "Tremec" name on a transmission doesn't automatically make it better.
BE SURE THE THUD IS GONE and no it is not normal
DERRRRR
Be sure the tranny still shifts smooth below 30 degrees no more grinding
DERRRRR
Be sure to use more soft touch materials inside the car
That will probably happen on a premium model
Be sure the body panel allignments are spot on
That will probably happen on the S550 generation by the next production year.
Be sure the car has at least 19 gallons of fuel tank
200lbs lighter but wanting a 19 gallon tank? Would 100lbs lighter and a 19 gallon tank be okay? Can't have your cake and eat it too.
Be sure to price it right, it is ok to pay a little more for better quality and performance
One persons "a little more" is another persons "excessive increase"
There ya go tiger, knock yourself out!

I'm thinking the S650 chassis will just be a revised S550. If Ford would drop a few hundred pounds all the performance numbers will fall right in place. Maybe make a Lincoln coupe off the platform to handle the grand touring sales and keep the mustang lean. But then again the Mustang has managed to be "the right car" at the right time for decades. So maybe heavy @$$ luxo barges are en vogue. If the sales stay up the change may not be drastic.

I'm not sure why there's so much fear about losing the V8. Wouldn't it be equally plausible they would just to a more efficient smaller displacement ecoboost turbo V8 like Mclaren's 3.8 or Bentley and Mercedes 4.0?

Don't forget Auto Start/Stop.

Personally, I think they didn't do DI for this gen of 5.0 is that it makes it VERY difficult to add forced induction to it. You can't just throw bigger injectors into a DI engine and tweak the fuel pump to add more fuel. Not a simple thing to do with a Direct Injection fuel pump.
You'd have to do like they are doing with the GT and new Raptor 3.5's.
They had to add Port Injection in addition to the DI to get enough fuel to be able produce the added horsepower.
Maybe they will have that figured out by 2020.

I really don't know why everyone has a hard on for the end of the V8, whether they want to see it gone or are afraid of it. The Coyote left direct injection on the table for one. Displacement on demand, despite everyone hating it. Here's an idea, go smaller displacement with similar output. My point being there are plenty of ways Ford can keep the V8 on a standard Mustang as an option.

The Fusion will not be coming back to Flat Rock. Last one rolled off the assembly line yesterday.
MKZ and new Continental will be built at Flat Rock along side the S550.
Should be enough capacity to build a LincStang also. ;)

On that note, the new 3.0 400hp in the new Continental is MIGHTY intriguing. As is the next gen 3.5 from the Raptor, 450+hp?

"The next‐generation MKZ (CD622) was moved from the Hermosillo plant to Flat Rock Assembly with an SOP of July 2019 (was August 2018), facelift of July 2022 (was July 2021), and EOP of June 2026 (was July 2024)."

Wow, they are moving the MKZ back from the Hermosillo Plant back to Flat Rock, Michigan!? :eyebulge: Which means they are bringing the fusion back as well possibly?

Props to ford for bringing jobs back into america!! :ford::headbang:

And now this site is on Foxnews, though they were more correct in their reporting:

"An industry forecast prepared by LMC Automotive for the accounting firm UHY LLC, which was posted to the enthusiast website Mustang6G.com, suggests that the start of production for the next-generation Mustang has been moved from January 2022 to May 2020."

...

"Ford doesn’t comment on future product in development, so the reason for the move, if true, is unknown. However, the all-new 2016 Chevrolet Camaro has been well-received by consumers and the automotive press, winning several comparison tests of the two cars and a number of Car of the Year awards. That said, the Mustang is ahead in the sales race this year, 17,573 vs. 11,702."

And now LLN are reporting it's the Camaro that is the likely reason for the 7th Gen being pulled forward

http://www.leftlanenews.com/next-ford-mustang-to-arrive-two-years-early-report-91158.html

I would imagine the '18MY refresh will be plenty enough to keep the (admittedly well received) Camaro honest!

Perhaps Ford are delighted with the S550's sales WORLDWIDE and, as the company is going well financially, they've decided to make their produce even better, sooner than originally planned!

In general the automotive press is trying to prop up a truly well performing, but slow selling, 6th Gen Camaro.

I also forgot to mention, whilst Camaro is the traditional competition for the Mustang, S550 has broadened Mustang's horizon's like never before. Competition now includes premium German brands like BMW's 4 (and 2!) Series, Audi A5 and well as many others. It's found a superb slice of the market that appeals to both pony/muscle car fans, as well a premium coupe buyers.

I think this is yet another reason Ford would be happy to invest in the 7th Gen's future :)

I agree. Investment tends to be greater when successful, rather than the other way around. Mustang is doing well and it is receiving the attention it deserves.
