Just got car august 2. After driving for awhile. When I come to a stop I hear this awful noise like fan is hitting the shroud for a few seconds and quits. It is random when it does this. Some days it won’t do it at all then it will do it 2 or 3 times In a hour. No check engine lights no codes either. I’m clueless on this one.

Are you running the seat cooler? There was someone that had an intermittent fan sound from the seat.

It’s not that it’s coming from underneath the hood I can hear it in car with windows rolled up.

It could be difficult to time it, maybe you could trip it, but find a way to have both cooling fans running while someone is listening under the hood.

IDK if FORScan or something like it could be used to force both fans on for the purposes of t-shooting. FDRS or Ford procedure? Or, maybe as simple as turning on the A/C when the car is idling and let the temps come up.

The fans are the one component under hood which will come on at random times.

Do the shrouds appear OK? Or do they look like they are being clipped? Any chance the shrouds are or fan assemblies are loose and moving?

It seems to only happen when coming to a stop and sitting for few seconds. I have checked the main fan it seems fine. Took it to dealership yesterday and let it run for 20 minutes with hood open and a/c running and wouldn’t you know it wouldn’t make the noise. And I’m in Texas the temp was 102. I thought these cars had only one fan not 2.

That is correct. I thought they had two. My bad.

Any chance something rubbing or vibrating in some way? Not just under hood, but brakes or suspension? It seems to be something which happens when the car is leaning forward as in braking or during a stop?

Edit,

I wonder if going down in something like a parking garage could help replicate it.

I watched Derek and his buddy working on his Corvette blower issues and they were trying to isolate a noise. They "fabricated" a long hollow pipe and used that to place up against various areas of the vehicle to isolate the noise.

Might be worth a shot.

If it works out for you let us know and we shall dub thee "The Car Whisperer"

It sounds like a cat trying to escape lol. It’s embarrassing when it happens.

Good afternoon. Would you please send over a private message with your VIN and dealer info so I can look into this noise concern on my end? Thank you!

Get yourself a large wooden dowel like 1/2 or 3/4 inch and use that as a transducer to locate noise. Press one end against your ear and the other at various spots, pulleys etc on the engine. Harbor Freight sells a mechanic's stethoscope that does the same thing. It's poorly constructed. My 2003 GT had a similar issue. It turned out to be a bad bearing in the cooling fan and depending upon when it felt like it the blade would wobble and hit the shroud. The blade had too much wobble in it.

That’s about the only thing it can be is a loose fan blade from bad bearing

I guess I’m gonna fix my car myself all these dealerships want car for 2 days to diagnose car. When I checked the cooling fan it is bad. Last time I took my car no fix and a lot of joyriding in my car. Always check ford pass app when taking car to dealership. If not they will take advantage of you. So I’m gonna be out 300 bucks for a fan because I can’t trust these dealerships. Good thing is I know it will be fixed right. Never buying a new car again I’m done. Both of my 24 gts have problems. But my 06 f250 is in better shape than they are and it has the famous 6.0

Days of taking your car to the dealer and having them fix it while you wait is over and had been over for years. As these cars get more , it takes longer to diagnose and fix, which causes longer wait times. Even just taking the cars in for oil change and tire rotation takes a few hours. Understandable, but still frustrating.........
