Mustang was the number one selling this past year, not 7 years ago, so that analogy doesn't make sense.
They're down 10% from last year. And in 2021 and 2022 they weren't number one.

Plus they quit making the Challenger and Camaro so it didn't even have any competition last year. Selling leftovers.

So in 2023 when they made challenger and Camaro they were number 1 and this past year they were number 1. And beat bmw m2. Got it.

Chrysler did so well with the V8 cars because they advertised the crap out of them, they supported events like Roadkill Nights, Mark Worman single handedly sold a ton of of cars for them just by using crate engines in some of his builds.

As far as the 2024 mustang goes, they were having so many supply chain issues with you name the part that people were cancelling orders and some people that placed orders never got their cars built. Oh ya having cars with open recalls sitting on the lot that could not be sold did wonders for the sales numbers.

My 24 GT Premium ragtop 401 A has about 3700 miles on it.

It has it's moments, but after 9 months of ownership my feelings about the car are "ehhh"

There is nothing I can do to it besides drive it

I was going to Whipple it, but decided that it had enough oooomph for my needs.

My 2022 Highlander is a nicer vehicle IMHO and the tech stuff is nearly identical.

my super low mileage 07 GT Premium ragtop was a car I could make minor modifications to. I changed the "premium" wheels to the 5 spoke wheels on the lower trim levels, the tan roof and interior were nicer for Florida, sure the 4.6 was a dog but it was a nice car to drive.

And yes I cursed my C4 for the whole time I owned it, but I could work on it and make it better.

This......nothing I can do to my car either......I miss the day of endless bolt ons......it made owning the car fun.....

Maybe Im just getting old but I want a cheap car I can modify more......I miss tinkering.....

I actually think at this point if I made a change I would mess with a terminator or older GT500 (pre 2020) so I could mess with it

I LOVE my current car- but it does bug me I cant mess with it- as anything I do will probably make it worse lol

I am told the Mazda Miata is a fun car, not quick, but once it gets momentum it is a fun car, and there are superchatger kits for them that make them a little rocketship, plus track days are abundant if there is an active club and track close by

If we compare the sales numbers for sports cars with other brands in 2024 the sales are still much better for the Stang!!

Only BMW has higher numbers if you add the two and four series models, but that would be like adding Mustang Mach-E to the mustang number and in that case Ford would win over BMW. I think the Nisan Z car sale number is very poor.

Still number one selling over all other sports cars.
Quite a few of those cars have positive growth, though

And none of them sell in the volume that the Mustang was a few years ago

It's not that they aren't selling more than others, they are just selling half of what they did just a few years ago

Remember the Mustang is the only car being made at that plant. The Nissan Z and BMW's are made at plants making many different cars.

Half of what they did a few years ago? The Mustangs sales have been basically flat since covid. Basically no growth, basically no decline.

The bottom line is that all the other companies would love for their sports car to sell as many as the number one selling, which is the Mustang.

I agree with oppolock. People like me are who Ford needed to cater to...not the focus group types who convinced them they would buy it if it had screens etc. with zero intention or means of actually doing it. I have the means to trade and buy a new one. Heck my Ford dealer tries to put me in a Dark Horse every time I get my Mach 1 serviced. However two things will keep that from happening: 1) absurd price ($70K is C8 $) and those 2) those damn screens. I think the ECU is a big one for 6/5th gen owners too. Until Ford course corrects on these, S650 will continue to flop. Maybe the rumored GT500/Boss will do what needs to be done.
Yes the "damn screens" came from the China made 2023 Ford Taurus. They actually look little better in that dash compare to the mustang.

The bottom line is if sales stay at this level or go down like they are. The car will be gone.

That was a decade ago. The sales have been flat since covid. Basically no growth, no decline.

If all other sports cars right now basically sell half of what mustang does, and they're still around, the mustang will be fine.

they made the car so good … they took all the fun out of modifying them … now it’s just do you want a whipple or not …
This is, to me, the core issue. It's kind of like Harley Davidson Motorcycles. Was a time when 1%'s (as in Hardcore bikers, not 1%'s of wealth) were the core of the business, buying them even in the 80s when it was a coin flip on whether or not they would stay together and running. Then Harley started building motorcycles that cost upwards of the price of a car. Touring models now cost $30k and up; cruisers and sports models start in the $20's (new). What you could modify with these bikes also has significantly changed, going from frame and engine modifications, now to which luggage racks and "Harley Authorized" engine upgrades. Guess what, Harley Davidson has experienced declining sales in the double digits in light of these changes. It seems to me like Ford Mustang is repeating the trend.
