I have experienced the same thing. My scenario goes like this…. Cold start up in my driveway, select sport or track mode, very lightly pull out of the driveway at say 10% throttle, and the car sputters and stumbles going into 2nd, and 3rd. 1st gear seems to hang in there for ever sometimes going up to 5K. I have had the same issue leaving work with more throttle (say 30%), pulling onto a highway. Ambient temp doesn’t matter, It has happened at 60 and at 105 (Houston). It only does this once and then never acts up again on the drive.

I just resigned to the fact that the transmission needs to get up closer to operating temp before moving out of normal mode.

My Tremec MT is no different. Cold, she's a bit of a diva. Difficult shifting, often.
HERETIC! BURN HIM!
You must know by now that the Dark Horse 6 speed is UNASSAILABLE and must be revered.

Now that you mention it, I’ve had that happen to me - toggle to sport and not yet warm enough and it’s hold, hold, hold, rev, rev, rev and SHIFT. I may try leaving it in normal longer and see if that helps.

just a data point here, it’s possible that Ford has updated the transmission s/w, even now.
I mentioned before, my Rap was held back for additional QA. Even so, in eco normal mode, once I was in an OD gear, only full throttle would compel a downshift and only under around 48-50mph.
She’d go to 20 pounds of boost in 10th gear at 43mph but not shift.

when I went to the stealership I asked for a tcm update (mistake 1).
tech connected and reported back ‘you have the most current tcm programming’.

That was untrue. I had ‘compatible’ programming. I brought it back, this time I pointed out
there is a more current tcm programming, to which I got ‘you have to lodge a complaint and we match it to known open tickets’. I believe there was a TSB for ‘harsh shifting’ which also improved overall shifting.

Night and day difference. The shifting was what most would call ‘normal’ and you didn’t need to stab the throttle any more to make it downshift. The only real issue I have with the current shifting in my Raptor is : mostly in normal mode but sometimes in sport as well. I sometimes have to stop completely for 2-3 seconds before the transmission will go from 3rd to first. So I take off in 3rd, immediately downshift to 2nd. I can make it happen but sometimes it catches me when I’m lazy too.

So, if this really is bothersome I’d suggest taking the car to the stealership, let them recreate the problem, with a full cold start - at least 8 hours since last start. Get in, hit the start button, switch to sport, put in gear and go.

“They all do it” isn’t necessarily an acceptable answer. Unless Ford comes back with guidance on it saying so. In other words, don’t accept dealer tech laziness as an answer. Make sure it’s actually discussed with Ford and that actually is the answer.

Similar experience for me also. Although I notice it going into second , and then into fourth. Seems to shift fine second to third , which is puzzling to me. When warmed up it does seem to go away. Car basically falls flat on its face , then slams into gear and takes off. Yet 2nd to 3rd it shifts smooth and fine every time.

If I drive it like I have a glass of water on the dash and very very easy, I hardly notice. If I drive it like a normal person and step on it slightly heavy, it does this until its warmed up. I was hoping it would smooth out over time , as it's very annoying. It not like the tranny is freezing at 72 degrees outside ( I live in WI , so I know a freezing tranny). It does act like it is though.

I honestly rarely give it the beans , so it is hard for me to know if it does it when warmed up , and hard throttle. Seems like it has shifted poorly the few times I hit it hard. I chalked it up to my own ignorance. I have literally been driving trucks my whole adult life , so I'm a total noob to a sport car characteristics. I am scared if it does shift this way at full throttle, it may not be good for it. Plus being new to sports cars , it kinda throws me off on learning. I have been riding ATVS, Dirt bikes, street bikes , UTVS ect.. my whole life. This NOT being a manual trans (thanks wife) kinda throws me off already.

Before anyone says anything , YES I know , and DO warm the car up before hitting gas. Yes I know the tranny takes longer , and needs to be driven. Part of why I have not been too concerned is because I do always warm it up before stepping on it.

However,
I don't like feeling like its broke until I warm it up. Never experienced this in any truck , unless it was -15 degrees outside.

I've got 2300 miles on our S650 and I'm experiencing some strange shifting behavior when the car is cold. After starting the car and letting the idle settle, if I give it 1/3 to 1/2 throttle as I pull away, the transmission stumbles pretty badly between first and second and again between third and fourth gears. Once the car is fully warmed up it shifts completely normally. Anyone else experience this?
Hello! I can investigate the transmission concern on your Mustang further. Can you please send us a message with your VIN and local Ford dealer? Thanks.

@MNPony ..." and ease my way up to 50mph using moderate throttle input (definitely well below half throttle). Anything more than completely babying it and I get that stumble between the first few shifts." ....... IMO you'd then be 100% correct in going to the dealer with this and insisting on a fix. I have never had this happen even if I didn't (rarely) warm it up to operating temperature. IMO you should be able to do exactly what you are doing with no transmission misbehavior. You may need to have it re-programmed. This should absolutely be the dealer's problem.

I agree 100% but since Ford has offered to investigate on my behalf, I'm going to wait and let that play out first
