Honestly how you bring up the escort makes me think that’s the missing piece to the “affordable” enthusiast car issue people have. The Mustang being pushed as the flagship sports car is fine at this point with the GTD and race efforts.

A Escort like you said in its most legendary form for inspiration could be special. RS would have to be geared towards that import crowd again. RS200 could make a lot of sense with Toyota bringing the MR2 out, rumor has it that Toyota is positioning it as a premium product.

As for the MR2, I have a wild theory that Ford and Toyota could be developing this mid-engine platform together. Ford and Toyota openly work with other brands, especially when it comes to sports cars in Toyota's case.

Now both companies are showing small, mid-engine cars that even have the same idea of active pop out vents and areo on the side in the same place. Logically, both would be offering similar levels of power, and would be priced comparable to one another. It would make a lot of sense to work together and share the cost on this to make it more economically feasible.

Toyota has been working on it with Daihatsu and Suzuki supposedly through leaks and things. G16e 3 banger from the Yaris/Corolla and maybe the GR Four AWD. Only outside partner since the BMW relationship is done, is oddly Hyundai. It’s speculated that for the enthusiasts variants they might stay in house.

Most of their top tier performers are gonna be based around the new 2.0l 4 cylinder they’re working on. Ice and Hybrid.

We're totally on the same page as this. I was thinking the escort needed to return. The only question is how to do that without the escort and mustang cannibalizing sales off one enough, you don't want that as a brand. The best way to avoid that is to make each model drastically different so they appeal to different groups of buyers.

The 90s escort already has that hatchback shape we all know and love. What if Ford did a modern interpretation, but found a way to sneak some rear doors in there, making it more practical? That way, Ford is appealing to the hatchback crowd, but also the people who want an affordable sporty car.

I know people will hate this people they should go all in with the Mustang being a “sports” car to make sense of the price. Keep the obvious design cues and lighten the car.

Escort like you said should essentially be a hot hatch AWD (only) car. Basically combining the old Fiesta and Focus lines. RS should mean high performing AWD, turbo 4s in my opinion. Rally dna to consumers. If there’s a EV it should still use the same formula minus the engine.

kinda like Raptor means off road/baja dna

An escort with rally racing heritage, and with a very wide range of models. You could have the focus st equivalent, the RS, and then go all out with some sort of radical widebody making like 500-600 hp.
