This is going to sound crazy, but I was getting a similar noise/clunk coming from the rear. I thought it was a loose caliper or other part... Turns out it's the exhaust making normal popping noises.. I figured it out when I discovered it made the noise a lot more in Sport Mode than Normal Mode. Now I love the noise !!! Go figure!!

Good afternoon. Would you please send over a private message with your VIN and dealer info so I can look into this clunking noise concern?

Found one of us on YouTube with some new evidence of where the sound is:

I've been following this thread for a few months hoping for a resolution to this problem.

2024 Dark Horse Premium, 10speed Auto. Build Date 10/23.

Popping/Clunking noise when lifting at slow speed to stop or turn. Usually around 2nd gear. Started around 300 miles and now has 2500. I can feel it through the brake pedal, floorboard and on the hand brake. I can hear the pop/clunk in the left front when slowing down and also in the rear when starting from a stop. I can also hear it in the rear when shifting from park to drive. It seems to be getting worse and more frequent. It's definitely not the exhaust popping. If you put the active exhaust in quiet mode, you can still hear it. I'm waiting for something to come apart.

I had it at the dealership last week. They told me Ford has a recall/bulletin on the half shafts and hubs in the rear. They ordered parts to replace these items. I'll be taking it back this week to have these items changed out. I think this may fix one problem, but I think the noise in the front end is something different, maybe a transmission problem resonating through the drivetrain/linkage. Dealership said they must address the recall/bulletin first, to see if it fixes the problem.

I'll give an update as soon as it gets out of the shop. If anyone else has dealership updates, please post. Thanks, ✌

I'll be doing the Dark Horse Track Attack in October. I'm curious if the vehicles we will be driving will have the same issues?

Ford, where you at? We need help! Shouldn't be having problems with a brand new $60K+ car.

Mine also makes this noise during low speed decel. I would like to know if it's cause for concern or not. My fingers are crossed that it's a quirk and not an issue.

Hi there! I can look into your Mustang's noise concern on my end. To get started, could you please send a private message over with the name/location of your local Ford dealer and your Mustang's VIN?

Let me just join the club with the same issue. However I found it out when it happens 7 out of 10 times it also happens when I accelerate after this noise at slow down. Sometimes after a while the noise stops. DH A10 10K km. This is the 3rd issue with the car since May when I bought it. Never raced, never pushed, it's a cruiser. I still have the small spoiler, the dealer is still trying to get me the standard one. First FORD, not the best introduction for sure...

Car is out of the shop. Had both half shafts and hubs replaced yesterday + realignment.
Problem still exists. Dealer is now ordering some new transmission mounts. Taking it back to the shop when the parts arrive. To be continued......................

Scroll your Windows down a little and you Will here it's the exhaust making pops! It had me to in the beginning. Put it in sport and you have it all the time sometimes harder then the other. It's Ford it's tune that is little to optimistic espacially when you go from 50km/h to 30/35 when you brake and release the brakes again. Pop or bang i feel like a teenager again 😅 they need to adjust this. It's stupid at slow speeds

Sometimes i think Ford is stupide like there is a tsb for the clicking sound when put in drive or reverse Ford says replacement half shafts and bearing and all that is needed is explained in the link i provided. Because parts are rare for the moment in belgium and i had the clicking problem to and the video i provide in the link cured my problem 200% no halfshafts no bearings just a smalle bit of ceramic paste and 2 New halfshafts nuts and put to torque specs.

I like the exhaust pops. That is not what we're talking about though.

Hello everyone, Dark Horse owner from Dubai here. I have a Dark Horse that has a similar noise as the one described in this thread. A few thing I can add to the conversation are that I have a good idea on where the noise is coming from. Firstly I noticed that my noise also happens during light breaking/downshifts/Switching to R after D so this leads me to believe that it is related to the service bulletin Ford had for the previous Mustang. I will be going to my local dealer soon to talk to them about it but I am pretty sure that it's the one I think it is. Hope this helps someone in the future.

I’m a DarkHorse owner from China. Mine was built in Dec. 2023 and I bought it in June this year. I had the same issue at about 1,000 miles. I could hear the clunking noise when braking and then accelerating, and also when shifting from D to R. I took it to the dealer and they replaced a driveshaft for me but it still existed. So I went back to the dealer and they had 4 mechanics coming over to test drive it for 3 days, and eventually they found the problem: it wasn’t the driveshaft and wasn’t the half shaft either. It was the part that connects the transmission and the driveshaft that was making the noise. The old one was rusty and there wasn’t any grease in it. Tell the dealer to replace a new one for you. And do make sure they put enough grease in the part. The grease my dealer used is produced in Japan by the way. It can endure a temperature range from -40 to 1400 degrees celcius. It won’t take long for them to fix it. I’ve attached a photo. The part is the one in the red circle. You can see how rusty it was.

That is the output shaft flange and a similar problem has been reported elsewhere and lubrication fixed it
