Has anyone seen any data as to how many Dark Horses have been produced out of all the Dark Horse retail orders placed?

I don't remember where I read it, but a few weeks ago I saw something saying that about 4,000 2024s were made, and 2025s are only being made by order.

Have they even built or taken orders for any ā€˜25 DH handling package cars? I always heard they wouldn’t build summer tire cars in the winter.

That was part of why my order got pushed from a 2024 to a 2025. Orders can be placed for the Handling pack, but they won't be built until April at the earliest. It never made sense to me though. With or without the handling package, both sets of tires are summer tires, whether it's the Trofeo set or the P-Zero set. I took delivery of mine with the P-Zeros in January, and if those are summer only tires, why would the Trofeos being summer only stop them from delivering HPs year-round. I'm sure there has to be another reason, but I don't know what it is. Maybe because the suspension is individually track-tuned?

Yeah, it really doesn’t make sense when you think about it. I bought one of my ā€˜24s in December and the other ā€˜24 about a week ago. Both are HP cars and I assure you the dealers had no problem selling either one to me. So what is the difference in Ford’s liability whether the cars are ā€˜24s or ā€˜25s? They still delivered summer tire cars in the dead of winter. And here in N. GA the temp got down into single digits last week.

If someone wanted handling package cars (which this time I did) the in stock ā€˜24s were the only option other than a long wait. I’m old and don’t wait on anything if I can avoid it. Plus they were a lot cheaper than identical ā€˜25s.

I originally ordered mine when the banks opened in 2023 for a 2024 with AP and HP, but with the summer only build times, HP wheels being out of stock for a while, running out of Tremec transmissions for the 2024s, and the low number of allotments for WA in general, I was told it was going to roll to a 2025 and if I expected to see it I'd need to drop the HP. I tried looking for my spec already on a lot, but all the ones within about 500 miles were all automatics and had $10k+ mark ups, so I waited. It wasn't exactly what I wanted, but from the time I confirmed the changes to the time I drove it home was less than two months, and it was about 12 degrees and raining when I picked it up with summer only tires.

I don't know why Ford chose to bottleneck themselves and their supply chain with the HPs, but it didn't do them any favors. For my first time factory ordering a car it wasn't a great experience, but I do have the only 2025 DH in my state and I'm not disappointed with the car at all. Apparently I'm so identifiable that my wife was on her way back from lunch with friends and was able to pick me out in rush hour traffic in the Seattle area when I was on my way home. Rolled down her window and catcalled me as they drove by. :cwl:

So, the rest of my story is that after 548 days, I received my 2024 Dark Horse AP/HP on September 26, 2024. I was able to drive it for about 2 1/2 weeks before I stored it. Put about 350 miles on it...and am just chomping at the bit to get it back out there, hopefully, very shortly! I've heard the same #s recently...produced about 4,000 of the 2024s (which I feel like I was very fortunate to probably get one of the last 2024s). I've also read, as it got late in my build, that the chassis #s were basically being assigned randomly...which plays out in my opinion, as my chassis # was R7879. Overall, VERY happy with my build and cannot wait to get it on the road this Spring!

Yeah, I think they started randomizing chassis numbers fairly early. Probably the first 10 or so were sequenced, then after that random. It's the only way to explain 4k being made, and chassis numbers in the 9,000s.

I've been daily driving mine since I picked it up. Rain, snow, or sunshine. I've got like 2,500 miles on it now and it never gets old. Hopefully you'll be back in the saddle sooner than later.

Because the Trofeos will be damaged sitting outside the factory if it gets cold. Very fragile compared to the P-Zeros or Michelins. They cars are made in Michigan and it can get down to zero farenheit or colder in the winter

That's a good one.
