If you go Blackvue, you're paying twice the price, and there are other brands with better image quality at a lower price. Google and YouTube is your friend.

If you're looking for the best quality image, especially at night, look for something with the Sony Starvis 2 sensor.

VIOFO A229 Pro Duo 4K UHD is what will likely go in mine. I have the VIOFO A129 Pro Duo 4K + 1080P in my F150 and it's been bulletproof.

If you want compact and no screen, look at the Garmin Dash Cam Mini 2.

Two year old video, but it will give you a good intro into dashcams: Almost EVERYONE is Wasting Money on Dash Cams. - YouTube
hey.. Is this the one you are referring to?

There is a place in Canada that specializes in dash cams. Lots of good information on their website and YouTube channel. They carry Viofo, Thinkware, BlackVue, and others.

I have Thinkware in my GT500 and the wifes Explorer. The kids vehicles all have Viofo. I looked at BlackVue, because I like the look of the dash cam, but I preferred the Thinkware interface and cloud system.

Vortex Radar on YouTube has quite a few reviews of dash cams and radar detectors. Lots of informative videos.

On a side note. I have a Mustang GT on order, and was curious about the rearview mirror USB port. Is it USB-A or USB-C? Also, does it stay powered with the vehicle is off for parking mode?

Hey All,

Looking for recommendations for a Dashcam which supports the USB amperage the Rear View mirror puts out. I am not a fan of dangling wires to use the 12v port and want something which is more aesthetic.
Thank you! ☺
I purchased the Cobra, please with it and it comes with short usb cable.

USB-A

It stays on for a limited period of time. It's not on 24x7. If you get a dashcam with parking mode, you'll want to hardware it with a kit that will disable it if battery voltage drops below a (settable) number.

Thank you all.
Use case currently is for catching driving incidents just in case. Taking into account the car has motion sensors - parking incidents at my secure car spot is alright. She is not a grocery getter yet - so she ain’t going to be parked anywhere random anytime soon!

The viofo looks impressive - but seems like a lil bit of a big profile - any other recommendations for a low profile cam? I have no intentions of wanting a screen - I’ll switch SD cards during my drives anyway - so video overwrites is not a concern.
Relatively newer offering from VIOFO with the STAVIS2 sensor. No screen. Only 1 channel. Can't vouch for it, but you should take a look. This is a 2K camera, not a 4K.

Again, also look at the Garmin Mini 2. Only 1080p, but ...

Thanks roadpilot / the Garmin looks low profile and easy to use as well.

I also stumbled upon that —> https://a.co/d/9t7qhDo

Any thoughts/experience with that?

Not bad for 2K 1CH unit.

Looks like hot cheap Chinese garbage to me. I wouldn't give them a nickel for it.

Bottom line, when it comes to dashcams, you get what you pay for. Cheap Chinese bullshit is cheap Chinese bullshit. You don't have to pay $500 for a solid setup, but you also aren't going to get away with a $40 or even $100 setup and get anything close to the same quality and performance.

Whatever you decide on, just make sure you can return it if you don't like it.
