I ordered a 24 GT premium back in December and the car was delivered today. I won't be about to pick it up until next month due to my work schedule. The salesman I was working with says they cannot hold it for me. Is there anything I can do?

Can you pay for it now and pick it up later?

I could but I really dont want to start paperwork without looking at the car in person.
Well I guess I would say just roll the dice and hope they don't sell it by the time you are able to get out there to look at it. It's too bad it's summer now because I know around here anyway these seem to be going a lot quicker now than they did a few months ago. Good luck. You can always just re-order if it does get sold.

Do you have a signed purchase order, or did the just promise you one of their allocations? Laws will vary depending on what state (country?) you live in. It might be worth using a mental health day of Paid-Time-Off to get the car. If that's not an option, roll the dice and see if they do in fact have another buyer lined up.

My guess is that you've been waiting for this since 2023 and want to close the deal. I just bought a Challenger from NJ and had it trucked to MA. Papers were all signed via FedEx next day air. It's a bit more of a hassle, but if you don't have the PTO or are not in the area, it could be one way to go.

The dealership is NOT obligated to sell you this car, nor are you are obligated to purchase this car.

My suggestion to you is: If you REALLY want this car, you MAKE the time to go seal the deal.

Or ask them if you can complete everything online, including eSigning document. Once you own it, they can't sell it ... even if they want to charge you storage (if the issue is logistics).

what type of job do you have that you don't have half an hour to go look at it. Do you work 24/7? They could leave it out overnight to see it. Do you work 7 days a week? Sounds like an excuse. Send someone you trust to go see it? Sounds like you don't want it very badly.

I do have a signed purchase order and follow up emails once Ford assigned a VIN to the order but it doesn't state an amount of time they have to hold the order. For what its worth Im in TX and im leaning on calling their bluff. I have a feeling the salesman just wants to move the car right now and doesn't actually have a buyer lined up.

A purchase agreement doesn't obligate them to sell you the car, nor does it obligate you to purchase it. Read it.

I absolutely do want it, Ive been waiting since last year for this order. My issue isn't time its distance, I'm currently on travel orders for the Govt.

While the OP hasn't responded to this, he is in Texas. For all we know, he works on an offshore oil rig and arrived for a multi-week shift the day before the dealership contacted him. Maybe he's a truck driver that works nation-wide and is only in town on Sundays when dealerships are closed. Maybe he is a lineman from Fort Worth and is currently in Houston repairing the damage from Hurricane Beryl and won't be back until early August.

Seems a bit odd for people to call someone out with no real information on the specific situation.

Do you have any "trusted" family or friends that can inspect the car for you; make a yea or nay decision? And/or, make a mutually agreeable (between you and the dealer) hold my Mustang deposit on your behalf? That's what I'd do if I could in your situation.

Best of luck getting it worked out to your satisfaction!

PS: Never mind the sales rep. Get the Sales/General Manager and/or dealership owner involved in the conversation. And remember; 9 tmes out of 10 you always get more with a carrot than a stick.

If you are with the government on orders. Have your command contact the dealership in writing and by phone to give them a reason to hold the car. You have some protection if doing gov work. Also threaten to expose them on all media outlets. They will back off to avoid looking like the previous dealerships who tired that and got exposed. But it would not hurt to get someone you trust to go look at the car and you electronically do the paperwork. You have a legit excuse for them to back off for now. However, leadership will tell you they can't make them keep the car for a long time without you doing the paperwork. It sucks but those are your options. Rolling the dice will get you another 8 months of waiting again. So tell them to call the dealership to by time until you find someone to look at the car. But you have to buy it to completely have all the leverage.
