haha come on, you know the salesman is bluffing. Go outside and look at the Ford lots that are overflowing with S650s. I barely see any on the road and when I do it's usually an ecoboost.
Every month, we ship tens of thousands of a major component, each one going into one of the 70% of all North American market Ford and Lincoln vehicles for which we supply. I can assure you, people are buying cars, trucks, and SUVs - including the Mustang.

The average American can't afford to buy a brand new mustang in this economy.
I and others have bought all kinds of new vehicles in the past months and years. Perhaps you should have chosen a better career path.

The Federal Reserve raised interest rates so much that it cooled the hysterical market we've had for the past four years.
See above.

At end of the day like I said when you have the money, YOU have the power.
Cool story, bro.

The CEO of Dodge got involved and pulled a last call vehicle to replace a custom order that was sold out from under a servicemember that was deployed.

OK, a grand total of one, likely Dodge looking for some free PR because Jay Leno got involved.

Let's see the "protections" for government employees that require a dealership to hold a vehicle for you.

This is my shocked face: 😐

Started coding when I was in my late teens. No offense, but by the end of my 20's, I was making more than most everyone I knew. Sounds to me like you should have negotiated a better offer from your employer if you can't afford a $40K vehicle.

I'm confused I thought you said you worked in a warehouse/factory? What part of coding involves shipping "auto components"?

Also you need to improve your reading comprehension skills because I said the average American can't afford one not that I can't. Mine is in my pfp 😂

Negative. I'm the Director of IT for a large Tier 1 automotive supplier.

Are you sure that's not your mom's? J/K

Chill out, young man. Your time will come.

Per the media, the average American can no longer afford a family trip to Disney but they are taking them anyhow because memories are more important than money, at least to some.
How?
Credit cards/loans/retirement savings withdrawals and so forth.
Credit card debt is at an all time high and sooner or later all of this will come tumbling down.
To the OP, lots of great advice in the thread. Mine is to walk. If the car is still there when you can get to the dealership, decide for yourself, but otherwise look elsewhere for a similar car on another lot.

If it wasn't a custom order, I'd agree. But it was. Why settle for 'similar' after all the wait? Not me.

Show us how he can force a car dealership to hold a car for him for weeks or months because he works for the government. I gotta see this one ...

I have to see some examples of a car dealership being "exposed" for not holding a vehicle for weeks or months. Show us.

The only legitimate advice you've given.
You can't read. I never said anything about keeping the car. Clearly said to tell his command to call the dealership to explain the situation. And also said he should get someone to get the car. You are just trying to start stuff per usual. Also the media has been hell on some dealership for doing something stupid. Just Google it.

I did exactly this a month ago had an order that wasn't moving dealership was lying - got my deposit back found one in Virginia on the ground 250 miles away. I looked at photo's only and the dealer assured me the car was straight I bought it sight unseen, signed paperwork with esign and dealer delivered the car.
I’m glad your delivery experience was positive. I was just presented with delivery or fly / drive and I chose the latter and probably the better for it as I found about 4 inches of very light scratches in the hood. The stealership made it right but this would have been complicated if it were a delivery. They didn’t show in the pictures very well but would definitely have showed up after a good wash.

That was the 6th car in 4 years I have bought exactly that way, had a problem with one of my purchases in 2019. I bought a 2019 Dodge HellCat wide body from Hendricks in Cary, NC paid cash, saw pictures never saw the car in person. Car was shipped to me and when it arrived it had a chunk out of the plastic on the front bumper (shipper took a picture of it before loading) so the accident happened between the time I saw pictures and it got loaded for shipment (lot accident). Told the shipper do not take the car off the truck. Called the sales manger who started yelling the shipper did it - I told him the shipper showed me pictures before he loaded it. Bottom line car went back and I got every single penny back I paid. They wanted to repair it and ship it back and I told them I did not want to do any business with them because OBVIOUSLY they can't be trusted. So even if you have an issue they are responsible and it's your choice whether to repair or send back for full refund.
The stealership I bought from recently was east of Waco, in the middle of what some people call “flyover country”. The whole lot was dirt and gravel and being in Texas, everything had dust on it as soon as they moved the vehicle. It was easy to miss small scratches and if you’re not looking for them, doubly so.

Let's see if we can read YOUR words:

If you are with the government on orders. Have your command contact the dealership in writing and by phone to give them a reason to hold the car. You have some protection if doing gov work.
Again, what are these specific "protections" that government employees have that can force a car dealership to "hold" a car for someone?

Just Google it.
YOU made the claim. YOU back it up.

You are just trying to start stuff per usual.
I'm not trying to start anything, but I often try to stop people from posting crap that isn't true when they clearly don't have a clue what they are talking about.

I don’t know of any myself but there is

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Servicemembers_Civil_Relief_Act

It won’t be much of a cudgel against a stealership selling a car. Its general purpose is to keep deployed service members from getting vehicles repossessed, assessed huge penalties, foreclosed, loss of domicile, etc. But depending on where you live, it could be ... hugely unpopular to sell a customer ordered vehicle out from under a service member on deployment. So, in the DMV, it wouldn’t mean sh!t, but, in Texas for example the public at large respect service members -current, former & retired on the same tier as LE, maybe a bit more.

The publicity - again, it wouldn’t even be more than a nextdoor post in the DC, MD, or VA area, but it would be 6 o’clock news in some TX news markets. Madonna notwithstanding, there IS such a thing as bad press. Ask the Secret Service about bad press ;-)

but yeah, you’re correct AFAIK. I don’t think there’s any legal prohibition here. It just might be the stupid thing to do.

SCRA is a "pause button" on legal proceedings while a soldier is deployed, for example if their neighbor is suing them for a damaged fence, the neighbor can't get a judgment in absentia. Or if OP had already bought the car, they might be able to compel the dealership to make a good faith effort to store it for 30 days.

I don't think you can compel them to not sell the car to another interested buyer if you turn down the purchase opportunity. Plus, if you were willing to throw money at a lawyer, why not just throw it at the dealership?
