Easier said than done

it’s a legal notice that if not responded to results in a fine and possibly further legal action
I hope you are going to be okay.
If your Exhaust is Factory there isn’t much you can do about it?
Good Luck.

Look at this: https://pmc.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/articles/PMC3531357/

A few paragraphs down, it mentions Australia and its noise issues. And truthfully, all major cities in the US have the same noise issue. In most, exurban area noise levels are up too. Before you complain about the authorities clamping down, ask yourself if you're part of the problem.

I think the bulk of V8 Mustang owners have at one time or another “been part of the problem”. I have, but we’re not the only community with the issue and as a biker I need to 1) take some ownership, I have aftermarket exhausts on them and 2) point the finger where it really comes to a head: The “loud pipes save lives” crowd of open pipe/drag pipe HD riders.

These are where noise complaints largely come from because the community has not self disciplined and they’re an extreme minority of motorists. A lot of noise ordinances start off ‘motorcycle only’. I can recall at least half a dozen instances of the loud pipes crowd making enemies all around. Make the kids cry from ear pain in front of mom and dad, that’s how you win friends and influence people alright. :-/

There’s a time and place for f*ckery and if you don’t have the discipline to know when it’s ok to let a little loose with the exhaust and throttle, then you’re garnering unwanted attention.

When I had my ’01 Lightning I had a nearby neighbor with an SVT Mustang ... I think ’01-ish. He got busy on it pretty quick, supercharged it and finally went with headers and ... well, straight pipes. How he got this through VA emissions inspection was beyond me but anyway we began calling him loud pipes Paul. He’d be in our quiet little ‘hood of cul-de-sacs and constantly drowning out conversations. Now when i roll into the “somewhat” populated area near my current house, I roll off and use quiet mode after hours.

Good for you! You mentioned ear pain... I wonder how bad some hot rodders' hearing is? Or should I say was!

When I was still in high school, one of my buddies had a stepdad who enjoyed drag racing. This was circa late 80’s. He was a plumber by trade and had a ’68 Mustang he bought _new_. It was very gloss black, when I first met Jimmy, it was at 351 ci and about a season later over 400ci. One night after a couple beers when we were bench racing, he says ‘come check out my new headers’.

He started it up and the entire carport was shaking. Concrete and all. It sounded just awesome. Then he grabbed a handful of holley carb and opened her up. It went from sounding great to nothing but both ears ringing just like that. All of us. That was a truly cool car.
I had this in mind when I got my 442 headers installed and took it for a spin before hooking the exhaust up. I wore ear plugs. Even then it was punishingly loud. Once I got the exhaust on it was much more tolerable but still pretty loud.

Out in the country it’s possible to get away with that sort of thing but when you’re in town making your exhaust reverberate off the buildings, you’re not making friends.
