Have heard other people talk about the build up at the bottom of the pan with those valves

never figured out what's so hard about removing a single bolt...
you said it’s hard to remove a bolt? It’s called no mess. You drain into a container via a clear tube. Boom oil drained. Then remove the plug if you want and there is nothing but a few drops remaining.

When you initially pull the plug oil doesn’t exactly flow pretty. And you have to drain into a pan. I drain into a container and take it right to recycle. No transferring used oil

Never had an issue removing the plug and not making a mess. Usually using a big pan that has the raised section that holds the filter, while it drains, when you remove the filter it makes a mess (you can do the thing where you use a plastic bag...), but again those large pans have enough space to catch that... and it has a pour spout to fill the jugs you just used to fill the car back up...

nothing wrong with the drain valve I just wonder how big a mess people are making without it

Nobody is making a mess. It’s just easier and faster.
