surprised nobody has pointed out what looks like a suspension and exhaust mode button on the steering wheel, right where the adaptive cruise distance adjustment and speed limiter toggle would normally be. guess that means no adaptive cruise control. also not sure how to feel about the lack of a drift brake, seeing as even the "track ready" Dark Horse has it. those paddle shifters are just no. the dial shifter is whatever, but the surround is just terrible. also, the trim is much like a 100/101A and 300/301A car, black vents and dash trim, but chrome cupholder trim. fully manual seats without heating and cooling too. as awesome as the GTD looks outside, the inside is a total letdown. such a shame
Couldn’t tell if two of those buttons had a red tint or not….

the GTD will be busy crushing tracks and possibly drag strips that lesser cars, even lesser mustangs could only dream of.
No it won’t. It’ll be all over YouTube for a month of two after they start getting delivered to all the “influencers,” then they’ll go into storage until the time they can be flipped for big money.

so the point stands. They won’t be drifting.

I think a lot of people here with negative comments are missing the entire point of this car.
It is not intended to be this flashy, halo, flagship, exotic competitor. I do believe Ford wanted to take the GT3 race car and do what was necessary to make it street legal - within reason. Fancy interiors, AWD, hybrid.....all that crap was not the point. (Why are people so obsessed with hybrid and AWD anyway??....that just screams added weight in my book which is the opposite of what you want in a purist track car.)

I'm very happy with what Ford did here. They didn't add a bunch of gimmicky "look at me" BS for people to brag about while sitting around a parking lot. They kept to the true vision....make this thing as fast as possible around a track.
And sure, for the same money, you could buy a GT3 RS which would have much nicer materials but those also aren't extremely rare and invite only to buy.

Right, which is why it's such a missed opportunity to have their drift brake shown on Youtube / Instagram / et cetera. They're only making a handful of GTDs and their shelf life in social media is short. They get a small marketing window to sell more options / higher trims on the "regular" Mustangs from the media bump.

Whether the GTD owner actually uses it to drift is irrelevant, it's there to be on video.

I doubt many GTD owners will be “hooning.”

the c8 doesn’t have it. Neither does just about any truly high end performer.

If you want to drift in a GTD, you don’t need a handbrake.

the GTD not having the handbrake won’t impact 4 cylinder sales. So long as the 4 banger and GT have it, then people who want it will be happy.

This is why I begrudgingly hope Speed Phenom gets one. He can be a bit annoying but that guy does actually track the cars he gets. His GT500/Z06/C8 performance coverage was solid. I'd take him over Stangmode or some of the others all day.

I don't know what enthusiasts want. If the interior was more upscale and luxurious, people would say it didn't fit the supercar theme. If it was a stripped out racecar, people would be saying it was too basic for a car in this price range.

Looks excellent. I'm glad Ford did not whore itself out to the whims of fashion leather alacantara and carbon fiber interior trim bullshit.
The GTD is like the Ferrari of old. It doesn't care about the human buying it or driving it. It only exists for performance. If you want creature comfort there's Infiniti or any one of the other nondescript soulless brands. I'd get a GTD over any recent Italian or (lolll!!!) German offerings. Farley has vision...and a full order book.
Yes I am sure the people who buy a GTD for more than Porsche money and as much as Ferrari or Lambo money will appreciate the fact that their pricey toy looks as plasticy and cheap inside as any other S650…LOL And as a true race car it would have been n/a with bigger bore or turbo charged because the supercharger has no business on a race track ! Too heavy over the front , too much heat and too much fuel consumption to go racing as you loose too much time refueling because the SC costs another 150 hp of parasitic losses…But these collectors or Youtubers wont care but will care that their interior is as cheap as any other Mustang…

I can't speak for all future GTD owners but I know Ben Sloss is already allocated one and I know for a fact he'll take his to the track on day 1. He uses his expensive toys as intended. I met him at Buttonwillow a few years back when he brought his GT4 to a track day. Another time, he brought his GT MKII.

You may know him from this recent event.

I'm pretty sure the massive reliability gains and stellar support network would make up for it. These things are a trade off. A lotus interior is nowhere near as nice as a Porsche of comparable year and price. But it drives better, lotus designs are WAY more attractive than the bloated frogs Porsche designs, and the powertrain is Toyota sourced, so it's gonna be more reliable than most Porsche's. Trade offs, it's the same deal here.

I dont know any Lotus that is faster or handles better than a 911GT3…Watch Randy Pobst lap Willow Springs which is a hp track going faster than he did in a C8 Z06 which has 150 hp more! As for reliability 911 engines are reliable like clockwork ran hard on the track while Toyota has problems with their GR86 or GR Corollas..Only reliable Toyota under these conditions is the Supra but this japanese quality is made by BMW…🤣
