Being the gearheads that we are, we love numbers. Especially when it comes to the wheels, where the weight reduction matters the most. We didn't waste any time to pull off tires off a Dark Horse to get the exact weights of the OEM wheels.

We did a weight comparison to the OEM Dark Horse handing package wheels vs our
Project 6GR Ten spoke wheels in both 19" and 20" applications. We are very excited to share the numbers with the Mustang 7G community.

Here are the weights for each wheel set with tires removed.

19" OEM Dark Horse Handling Package wheels
Front 19x10.5 - 32.30 lbs. each
Rear 19x11.0 - 32.75 lbs. each

Project 6GR Ten Spoke 19" size
Front 19x11.0 - 24.30 lbs. each
Rear 19x11.5 - 22.85 lbs. each

23.10 pounds reduced on all four corners with 20x11/20x11.5 Project 6GR-10 wheels


Reducing rotating mass where it matters the most plays a key part in any vehicles performance. Taking a page out of the Ford's handbook and world's 1st when they introduced a fully carbon fiber wheel on a full production vehicle, the Shelby GT350R. The weight savings from the carbon fiber GT350R vs GT350 cast aluminum was staggering. While the aluminum wheels came in around 33 lbs. each, the carbon fiber ones were only 18 lbs. each. Reducing 15 lbs. off of each corner made a big difference around the corners of the track.

Applying the same concept here, except not having to spend over $15k on wheels to be able to substantial reduce rotating mass off your wheels.

Weight reduction is always important. My 17" wheels do weigh 15.2lbs but are biciycle sized in comparison .

Sheeding 35lbs is quite substantial and is noticeable in all driving scenarios

I'm sure it's some math/physics wizardry, but how are your larger wheels lighter than the smaller ones?!

Ford's 11" wheel is .4 lbs heavier than the 10.5", but your 11" are 1.5 lbs lighter than the 10"?! Or did you just get the numbers flip flopped?

The rear is a lot more concave than the front meaning there is a lot less material on the back pad on the 11.5 thus allowing for less weight

Last question! Does the factory wheel center caps fit?

If not, can you tell me where the person in the photos got the Dark Horse center caps? I think they are on the forums here as well, but can't remember their username.

Is it possible to run the 19 inch 6GR 10 spoke gloss black with 10" wide fronts and 11.5" wide rears? It will clear the big brembos no problem?

My Dark Horse is a non-handling package car, so I wouldn't want to go wider than 10" in the front to avoid needing extra fender guards or extra camber to keep from scraping the tires.

Any reason not to do 10" front with 11.5" rear in general?

I would assume doing 10" front would be slightly lower weight than the 11" front from the first post?

yes you can run 19x10 19x11.5 or just the standard 19x10 19x11 setup. can still run the same size rear tire on either 11 or 11.5
