I was out for a drive today in my 24 GT (Base w/301A PKG) and made a right turn and started accelerating normally when a message popped up saying "Front camera malfunction service required" followed by another message saying "Pre collision assist not available." These two messaged popped up one right after another and they were gone almost just as fast. There was a car in front of me but it was a good distance ahead of me and the weather was nice, clear and dry with no rain). I have almost 6K miles on my car now and this is the first time I've ever seen this message or any message as far as I can remember.

Has anyone encountered these messages at all? I guess it's something I'll keep an eye on and see if either (or both) of them happen to come back. When the messages did appear the car behaved normally and it drove fine the rest of the way home (around 15 minutes) without any more messages appearing. I looked in my Ford app to see if there was anything about the messages in there but I didn't see anything but maybe I'm looking in the wrong place within the app? Please let me know if you have encountered this issue and what was the end result.

I have seen this happen on my wifes Murano. I concluded that the sun at the right angle blinds the camera. This was early morning sunrise. It never happened again in thast 3 years.

its just a warning saying the camera behind the rear view mirror isnt able to detect properly, since the system runs off that it disables it as a safety measure. could be weather, could be bugs on the windshield, ive had it trip because of sun glare a few times.

Ok thanks for the info and hopefully it was just a fluke. I'll keep my eye on it and see if it happens again. I guess it's nice having all this technology in a vehicle (maybe, lol), that is until something goes wrong or breaks:(

happened to mine, the felt pad right below the camera peeled up and blocked half the camera. check that, if it is peeling up just use a plastic scraper with angled tip and slide under the plastic trim piece and push it back down

I’ve been getting front camera warnings on my Dark Horse and even though we clean the glass and screen: it happens after a minute every time I drive.
It’s going to the shop in a week as I can’t use lane centering or adaptive cruise control. I’m guessing the pre collision assist doesn’t work either while it does this.

I think it has to do with how long the camera cannot identify the road for. Happens to me all the time during winter when there is ice on the windshield and lots of condensation inside. If the camera is having a hard time seeing the road you will usually but not always get a little yellow light indicating there is no forward collision assist and if it stays on for long enough I get that same error message. Sometimes it goes away right away other times I have to wait until I turn the car off and on again for it to clear. Biggest culprits are ice, condensation on the inside of the glass in front of the camera due to the interior heating up slowly in the winter and being a condensation madhouse, or sometimes like a few have already stated really bad glare from the sun being at a bad angle.

As long as the code goes away after you turn the car off and on again there isn't actually any electronic fault and nothing to be worried about.

While, I don't know about the Mustang specifics, the exact same thing happened with my Flex last week on I-10 west of Mobile when I was caught in a downburst. After a couple of hours, things dried out enough to come back to normal. It made the driving more work without cruise control, but otherwise no big deal. My understanding is that the collision avoidance system is mounted behind the front bumper.
