So I originally painted with high temp paint, but it was chipping all over the place from rocks being kicked up. So I sanded them down and applied hyperdip for now. Like 5 coats. Seems to get holding up ok.

Honestly, what I would love to do is have the tips powder coated bronze (since I have the bronze package), but that's not really easy to do.

I actually didn’t buy the Active Exhaust for this reason. I can’t believe Ford put cheap looking single wall tips on the AVE. At the very least, rolled tips would have looked much better.
I couldn't agree more. I had double-wall tips on my Z06's. They were very easy to clean and polish. It was one of the first things I noticed when I took delivery of my Mustang. I think I'm going to order the Ford/Borla system for my car in the spring. If my old eyes aren't deceiving me, it looks like those tips are double-wall.

So I'm trying to research best I can on replacing the tips on the AE with a welded tip solution. Not really keen on the slip/clamp on options out there. I've tried painting, which looks great to start, but just doesn't hold up.

So I know a lot of people are saying most exhaust/weld shops are hesitant/relunctant to work on the AE with the actuators. I've been trying to play around with different settings, but found out today that the valves completely open when you turn the car off. Obviously this will get in the way of allowing the cut as close as possible.

If the car is on, and mode set to quiet, the valve is completely closed, minimizing cutting risk, but not sure if it's best to have this work done with the car on (or if the shop would even work in this manner).

Anyone have more information or experience on having a shop cut and weld new tips onto the stock AE setup? I really like the sound and everything of my Steeda H-pipe with track mode, so don't necessarily need to spend thousands on a new setup just for tips, but don't want to cause issues/codes with jacking up the actuators doing this work.

Thanks

I gave up on cutting the tips and welding new ones on…. When I had my H-pipe installed I asked to have them push my tips out further. They now stick out about an inch maybe a smidge more than stock and looks better, imo.

I know. That's what it seems like minus a very few group that have completed it.

Just wish I could find a way to finish the stock tips in black to make them last. I don't mind the look, just want them black really at the end of the day.

I know it’s not just a tip replacement, but I really like the look of the black quad tips on the AWE Switchpath exhaust. The downside is it’s a catback system and rather pricey if all you really are looking for are double walled black tips. I uploaded a video showing the tips on my car.

Yeah, I've been looking at those options too. Like you said, a lot more $$ for black tips. Unless I'm expected to get significant performance difference from my H-pipe stock AE setup.

If I went this route, I think I would go with the Ford Performance with DH valence with the 5" tips to get that look for value too.

Have you considered having the tips powder coated? That would give the black tips you want and it's very durable.

Just not sure how to do so without removing the whole muffler system, which doesn't seem like viable option.

Would you happen to have a photo of this? Would be interested to see how it looks, thank you.

Not the best option, but just a thought. You'd probably have to remove the axle back system in order to somehow remove the tips. The problem with powder coating is that there's usually some down time of your car involved. I've had a bunch of stuff powder coated over the years, but usually do it during the winter months when my car is in storage. I've had things done on my cars that sometimes takes 3-4 weeks, depending on how busy my powder coating place is.
