So the DH seems to have a pretty good air intake system. IATs normally only a couple degrees from ambient, even in summer. Problem I've seen is in slow moving traffic or a parade i was in, the IATs kept going up, sometimes almost 50 deg delta. Once driving they immediately went down. Not sure where temps are taken, but would assume in intake manifold. Underhood temps obviously the problem. Would rapping air intake tubes help, or any other quick fix? I guess I could stop doing parades, but it was for Veterans.

I've seen the same thing in the same scenario (except Toronto induced traffic and not a parade).

Cruising at this time of year the IAT gets down to like 50F but when sit in traffic it can get up to 90-100F. From conversations I've had with other DH owners this is SOP for this type of car.

as far as i know, there isnt really much you can do about the low speed IATs. they dont hurt, anyways. i've noticed the same thing, if i idle or go low speed, the IATs go way up, but when moving they are 0 to 2 degrees above ambient

This is the same for any vehicle, not just the DH, we are worried because we are given this information and not sure what ranges or changes are okay. Its completely normal, nothing to worry about, you should see what happens to those numbers in stop and go traffic on a freeway with miles of back up on a summer afternoon.

+1 @kgautam28

this is not abnormal or unexpected. Just be cognizant of it and don't go hammering it until you've got air moving again.

Normal for me on a 70 deg day to see 150+ IAT when its back in the garage and idle. Once I put her away I usually open the hood up for awhile, that kind of trapped heat can not be good for all that plastic in there.

Car really needs a bigger hood vent IMO think GT500?

Of course your IATs will go up when there's no air flow. All that engine heat is getting sucked up into the intake.
Not an issue and no solve unless you route the intakes out and away from the engine bay.

On my 19 GT there was underhood air that could get inside air intake between grill and airbox. DH looks like that can't happen. Some used to wrap intake tube from filter to throttle body with insulatuon tape to keep down temps. Again DH appears to be.much better. Would be nice to know at what point you need to worry. Assume engine computer will keep it safe.

Agreed these temp flares are normal and accounted for. That said, these flares, usually in slow moving traffic on hot days and even worse if the AC is on - is why I use FULL synthetic oil which forms long chain polymers to protect internal engine parts in concert with the increasing temps. BTW old school trick - that may make for a few moments of passenger discomfort - if you feel your engine temp is making you nervous, roll down your windows/drop your top and turn on your heater - that will roast you, not your engine. As I said old school emergency trick.

Heater core is pretty small, the fan doesn't move much air, I've never seen the heater drop the coolant temp at all. Not even a tiny bit.

Think of how massive the radiator is and how much air those big electric cooling fans move (or driving down the road)
