On another note, I went to my car after work the other day, opened the door, got in, the greeting came up on the display, pressed the start button, and the car wouldn't start. I tried the button a few times and was like "wtf?" then I looked at the display and it said "key not detected".
I had left the keys at work.
So it seems the Ford app on my phone in my pocket let me get in my car.(I ALWAYS make sure the car is locked when I leave it.)
I don't believe the ICE Mustang has proximity based phone as a key functionality. My money is on you left your car unlocked this once lol

Well crap, you are correct.
I just tested it, made sure doors were locked, no key no phone near, just brought my phone out and no unlock.
So I did leave my car unlocked all day while I was at work, *sigh* that sucked.

I did some more testing this evening and locking with my right hand does seem to keep my fingers far enough away, so the car doesn't unlock after I have pressed the lock symbol. However, when I got dinner at Moe's I forgot and used my left hand. What a disaster! I gave up after 3 tries and used my right hand. Worked the first time. I have to retrain my brain to use my right hand. Glenn

Can't say I understand your dilemma. I just use a single finger (pointed, with all the others pointed back at me) to tap the "lock" icon. I don't have all of my fingers fully extended when I try to touch the "lock" icon.

Old habits die hard. Suffice it to say, I don't find the button on top of the handle, a natural place to put the lock symbol. It would be much easier if the button was on the vertical face of the handle. The button on top, may be a Ford thing, but I haven't owned a Ford since 1971. Therefore, I have to re-train my brain to position my hand and fingers differently. It's probably just me. Glenn

As @roadpilot said, you just use 1 finger to touch the Lock icon. Nothing more. With it being on or in a vertical position, it would be possibly touched accidentally more often and easily. My Wife's Macan has an indention on the outward part of the outside Door handle to lock the vehicle and I can say that I don't prefer that location. To each their own but I still struggle to see the issue that you're having with the placement and locking.

Or ... point at your reflection in the window (Driver or Passenger), smile and then lower that finger to the door handle. :giggle: :like:

@Tyler Durden ..... While talking about locking your cars, I have a comment. I hope all of you have purchased the inexpensive (available for example on Amazon.ca) Faraday pouches to store your keys in or any thief passing by could read your keys and drive off with your car. In your house you can keep them in an inexpensive Faraday box for the whole family. My brother in law in Milton learned the hard way with a $130K SUV that was gone in 10 seconds. He lives in Milton and 14 cars were stolen that night. He now has a faraday pouch for his keys. Ford Canada told me I could have a kill switch installed if they agreed on the dealer. They agreed on one in Kingston. A nearby Dodge dealer has been installing kill switches on their chargers, hellcats, challengers. Since doing that they have had 0 thefts. When I park in a worrisome area overnight (hotel parking lot while travelling) I pull the fuse for my ignition or fuel pump - that too will beat any computer guru 100% of the time. Cheers

Not required, the latest keys contain a motion activation sensor that times out after approx 1 minute.
If the keys are not moving, keyless entry is disabled and cannot be read.
So basically don't hold your keys all the time / whilst your sleeping and you'll be good.
Well, isn't that nifty..

@keithwalton ...... it's worse than you think. At any point while your key is active it can be read and cloned. Parking lots and valet parking areas are prime locations. My insurance agent told me that thieves now have a call-up device that will activate the fob and clone it. Ford corporate has allowed me to install a kill switch in my 2024 Mustang if done by a dealer they approve and did approve one in a city near me if I want to proceed. For a few $ I know my key can not be cloned. The faraday pouch holds my fob and three big keys. My brother in law who lost the latest gen Ford Expedition to thieves in less than 10 seconds has a Faraday pouch which his insurance company reimbursed him for and uses a faraday box in his house. He is a retired automotive engineer and thought he had everything safe. Will I gamble for a few dollars? Why would I? BTW....how cheap, you ask? I think I got two Faraday pouches for less than $15 on Amazon.

I wonder if we'll see pants sold with faraday pockets. :p
It’s an interesting situation when advanced tech introduces more issues and takes less effort than the old fashioned key switch.

There is a scenario where you can push the big red button without the brake on. If you try to leave the vehicle in this condition, a warning pops up, and the horn honks. Unfortunately, the alarm and horn doesn't always work for whatever reason. The only way you can tell, is to try and lock the car with the fob. Then and only then will the horn honk most of the time. Knowing this, I always hit the lock button twice while walking away from the car.

Then you'd have to take your keys out of your pocket to use the car at all.

To pick up a signal from a key someone has to be within 5m of you outside of the car with a hidden antenna or a bit further away with a directional one in plain view.

Where I park in parking lots no other car is every anywhere near me. Let alone a person.

The horn on mine does honk in the event of a failed lock. If you attempt to leave the vehicle with the ignition on and it warns you that you're essentially leaving the keys in the ignition ... Then err if that happened more than once I'd be worried
