How long are you willing to wait for a set of rims with a custom finish before moving on?

I ordered a set of rims in late December and asked for a custom finish with 3 different colors. The initial communications were great and they helped me figure out exactly what I wanted. No ETA was given when I placed my order and I didn't ask for one [so that's on me]. However, I assumed it would be about 3 months based on other posts. I've already paid in full btw.

I've occasionally reached out to get a status update or ETA. A few weeks ago I asked if they'd arrive before PITS 2025 and was told they would. They still haven't arrived. I was also told that the rims would arrive with the primary color of the finish I chose and that the vendor would do the other two locally. The finish I chose isn't one of the default options they offer.

So today I happen to see on Facebook that the vendor posts a pic of the style of rims I ordered in the base color I chose. They look incredible! I reached out to ask if those were mine, assuming they were, only to be told 'someone else happened to order those same rims in that color two weeks before I did.'

Honestly, I don't buy it. I have no proof and could easily be wrong but I'm starting to feel like I'm being jerked around at this point. I politely accepted that response and asked if I'd be able to get a more reliable ETA for these because I don't want half of this year's good weather to be gone before they arrive. If that's the case, I'd rather go with something else. And now they've gone silent and won't respond with an ETA or even an apology for it going past PITS after they told me I'd have them in time.

It's now approaching 3.5 months. How long would you wait, without being given an ETA, before you cut your losses and went with something else from a different vendor?

Thanks for anyone's time that responds. I appreciate it.

I’ve had a few sets of wheels, some bike wheels, some car wheels. My new BST carbon fibers for the bike took all of.. 10 days? I picked up 6x wheels for my Rap and that was a little longer. 1st 4 came in about 6 weeks out, the other 2 had to be shipped from Japan. Apparently by ship using wind power. They took a while, so long, the price went up $5.00 / wheel on me. I want to say 2 months ish? Obviously I did not pay all up front. I wasn’t in a hurry for them but I did keep an open dialog ( Pacific Wheel ) and they were super helpful and responsive.

I think at 4 months you’ve been plenty patient, unless these are one off, carbon fiber or unobtanium with a mirror chrome finish or something odd like that.

These can be largely subjective, some people want them for looks, others for weight savings, some both.

The vendor should be happy to provide regular updates, and if not, it’s kind of like I told the first ortho surgeon when I kept getting pushed back on rotator cuff repair. “Tell your boss he’s not the only orthopedic surgeon who can sew up a torn rotator cuff and you just talked your way out of his next trip to Tahiti”.

I'd say in two weeks if they haven't shipped , be mad. Based on your story.
