How to TURN THIS OFF

I'm not you, but I'd just turn down the sensitivity, but otherwise leave it be. If you do just turn it down, and it still goes off, you're too close to the person in front of you. I leave the one in my Ranger on max, and more than once it paid off.

It saved me yesterday on my way to work when some jackass cut in front of me and slammed his brake pedal, seemingly, to the floor. By the time I registered what was happening and went to apply the brake, it was already engaged. Without it, my reaction time wouldn't have been fast enough to avoid hitting him.
