mach 4 being about the number of doors versus how fast the thing is - is the dumbest branding idea in the history of dumb branding ideas. Whoever the flavor of the month is that’s pushing this crap needs to be fired.

a “door factory” Mustang. That just sucks.
if dodge wanted to resurrect an old, unused nameplate and do something different, fine. They still had the challenger. But this isn’t Dodge. This is the Ford Mustang - the definition of pony car. This isn’t some old dead nameplate. It’s the most successful and current champ of pony cars throughout history. And now it’s getting turned into a Buick.

so much nonsense the days. Can’t wait for this phase in human history to be in the rear view mirror.
Apparently on Reddit there was someone present at the meeting and said people chuckled and whispered when they showed the 4 door.

We’ll see how it pans out

Purists are crazy

Bring on the four door

And Baja variants are always a good thing
I genuinely don't understand car enthusiasts at times. If there's credibility to this, then it means Ford is genuinely considering bringing back a V8 powered, RWD sedan, maybe even with a manual. As enthusiasts, we should be floating on cloud 9 with this news, yet I've seen so many posts, both on here, and on other sites, just complaining that it would be called a mustang.

I get it, you get it, some other people on these forums get it. I just want badass cars, if all of Ford's interesting performance cars are folded into some sort of mustang sub-brand with mustang styling cues, that's not the worst idea I've ever heard. If Ford gives us a performance sedan, and maybe something like a mid-engine model down the road, I'm not gonna be upset because they're called mustangs. I'm gonna be through the roof because it means Ford's making multiple new exciting performance cars in a world of boring crossovers. I'm just exciting to see Ford cars maybe returning.

The factory that makes our cars is operating below half-capacity.

Anything that lets Ford build more cars at FRAP is going to help us. Ecoboosts and Dark Horses roll down the same line. I agree, having a Mach-4 on the line next to your Mustang GT isn't going to hurt it, what it will do is justify having a second shift so wait times for scheduling and build are shorter.

Ford, Lincoln, Mercury - plenty of room for a new model without tarnishing a known brand. Isn’t this the first thing a company does when they are getting ready to close it down? they spin off a group make it it’s own and then gone.

You have it backwards. Mustang is/was a model within the Ford brand. That changed with the Mach-E. At that point, the model became a brand. Once that happened we all knew what was going to happen. It’s been discussed for years now. And no, our Mustang is not going anywhere. At least for the foreseeable future. And you can thank the “brand” for that.

Why would you need an off-road baja mustang when you sell a Bronco? Or a Mach 4 when you sell(or try at least) a Mach E 4 Door Mustang and sedans are dead. Double facepalm!
I would be quite interested in a 4 door performance sedan from Ford that was a RWD V8. Give it just a little more headroom in the back and it's a winner for me. Right now, I am looking forward to the 2025 Charger and what it brings. My car is 11 years old right now and I am starting my search for a new vehicle. If Ford can bring a competitor to the charger and the 3/5 series, I would give them a serious look. Right now, the only car Ford has that I would look at would be the Mustang, and that's just a little smaller than I would like. I have no interest in a DD SUV.

Ugh, if you’re gonna give it four doors just go ahead and call it a stallion and be done with it already. Mixed breeds are hybrids.

The Mustang Mach-E was announced 5+ years ago, gotta work through those stages-of-grief there buddy. We've known about the Mustang sedan for ~2 years. Even the "Mach 4" isn't a total surprise, as the updated Bronco got 4K towing / AWD for the 2.5L hybrid update.

The Edge EV or a Taurus hybrid would be forgotten about in a week, while people are still ranting about the Mach-E naming. The brand recognition for Mustang is simply excellent, and they're going to use it.

And yet we’re still here talking about how great it’s doing.

I honestly don't care what it's called, but I do what the Mustang platform (V8, RWD or at least RWD biased AWD, more performance/sporty than luxury, etc.) In essence, I would like a 4 door T-bird, but even a 2 door T-bird would be fine. Call it a Falcon, Tbird, Torino, or whatnot. I don't choose cars based on the name.

Rejecting an good idea that expands the use of the mustang platform, and thus making it more profitable and sustainable in the long term, just because you don't like the name is short sighted.

Putting a 4 door performance sedan based on the Mustang platform could help sustain the Mustang just like the Charger helped sustain the Challenger.

That said, it's funny that you look down on "mixed breeds" when referring to the Mustang and other cars being called it...since the animal it was ultimately named after (the plane was named for the horse) and is used as the emblem, is ALSO a mixed breed.

Supposedly Chevy is considering doing the same thing with the Camaro and Corvette.
man’s that makes it better how?

chevy isn’t exactly the bastion of good decision making.

What’s next? Ford removing CarPlay to add its own “better” subscription service, like Chevy too?

Is the ‘Ford GT’ a truck?

I guess watering down the nameplate some more doesn’t really matter at this point. Lol.
agreed whole heartedly. I don't mind the idea, or the spirit behind these other "Mustangs" but give them their own identities and names. Mach E Isn't bad, but remove the Mustang name plate and just call it a Ford Mach E. In the same vein, Mach 4 isn't bad, but don't tag the Mustang name plate on to it. Or just call it something completely different.

Why not build more Mustangs and satisfy all those outstanding orders?
