Why insist calling it ‘four’ door if mustang doesn’t mean what we thought it did? If we can change what mustang means why insist other terms continue to maintain ‘their’ meaning?
Do you know how massive of a mistake it would have been if Ford didn't call the four door f150 and f150? When it is an f150 with four doors.

And I'm sure there were people who didn't like that choice back then.

I don't know anything about Porsche or their vehicles, so don't attribute others' arguments to me. But if its a four door mustang, call it that and don't play pretend. If it's not a four door mustang then don't call it that.
Well I’m making the argument because it’s the same thing you stated with a 4 door mustang, looking like a mustang, should be called a Mustang…..but a Panamera looks like a 4 door 911 but they didn’t name it that. So a performance sedan that looks like a 911 isn’t one and is doing well. It fits the argument better than the F150 one you tried to make.

Hence why I said a 4 door called a mustang isn’t needed.

I'm not here to argue against or for porsches marketing department or what they do.

Weren't the F250 and F350 four door versions of the F150 at one point? (At least until the Super Duty came along.)

Argument for that would be Ford calling it a “Mach 4”

but honestly what truck doesn’t have different door variants? Real question is how many performance cars have those variants today with the same name. So far just the Charger, that’s been many different things over the years and now it’s been a sedan longer then it’s been a coupe now

only if you’re willing to build a ‘mach 5’. But if only if it was what it resembled. Park them next to each other and ask a rando which is which and chances are they’ll pick the 2-door coupe/convertible everytime. ‘It’ would only be a mustang to those that don’t already know and at that point ‘they’ don’t really care.

You're arguing with structuralists. These are people who are trying to rewrite history to make the Mustang a "2-door coupe". Lee Iacocca just wanted a sporty car aimed at younger buyers. Up until the 1990s, affordable cars were 2-door to save money.

Building a 4-door Mustang with a 2.5L hybrid is precisely what Iacocca would do in 2026. Young buyers can't afford the $50k+ a V8 Manual Mustang coupe costs in 2026+, Ford is building the sporty vehicle they can afford, just like it did with the original Mustang.

Sure. Lol only thing is that argument isn’t rooted in any facts. He isn’t here, and when he was, Mustang was what it always was. The point you make is one that Alex from Lund always brings up with people assuming what a dead person would do to try and buffer an argument. I could say well it’s been the same Mustang for forever and he would want it that way. 🤷🏽‍♂️

None of them used to have variants lol That's what I was kinda getting at. The four full size door truck is a pretty new thing.

Yeah I understood that but I was saying putting it into proper context would’ve made better sense with performance cars. That’s why when Zig was arguing the crew cab and stuff I was like eh it’s called the Mustang Mach 4 though so that “Mach 4” part would fit that crew cab designation and go with your point. 😂

Quick question: What Mustang variants would make you worried that Ford is returning to making "commodity products" again?

So if they call it a mustang super cab, you're fine with it? Lol
I'd be down with a Mustang SuperCrew. More imaginative than "Mach 4" in my mind.
