Yeah I understood that but I was saying putting it into proper context would’ve made better sense with performance cars. That’s why when Zig was arguing the crew cab and stuff I was like eh it’s called the Mustang Mach 4 though so that “Mach 4” part would fit that crew cab designation and go with your point. 😂
I see I see 😁

Quick question: What Mustang variants would make you worried that Ford is returning to making "commodity products" again?

I'd be down with a Mustang SuperCrew. More imaginative than "Mach 4" in my mind.
With a Sedan it kind of becomes that is the argument. You’d have a 2 door, a sedan and a Crossover EV. That’s a Lotus lineup almost, that’s a bigger lineup then what Chrysler has 😂

If they make the four door mustang and it looks like a mustang with a V8 and performs like a mustang, just with four doors, that's totally fine with me.

I wouldn't like it if it were a normal sedan with a mustang logo.

That's why I say if it's a mustang with four doors, call it a four door mustang. If it's not, don't call it that. 👍

Sure. Lol only thing is that argument
This isn't an argument, it's more of a therapy session. The purists have always been misguided in trying to make a vehicle with a ThriftPower engine and SelectShift transmission into a "pure muscle car".

The Mustang Mach-E continues to pick up in sales, and in a few shorts years you'll see the Mustang Mach 4 outselling the Mustang coupe. The era of "Mock" Stangs is inevitable, because it's a mass market car.

It’s an argument between view points, like I said before it won’t change what’s about to happen. I just like to see where/why people think what they think, I try to challenge it.

You think it will outsell the regular Mustang because it’s a 4 door performance car or because it’s named Mustang? Panamera outsells the 911 without the name. Charger outsold the Challenger. If the car was named just Mach 4 or Cougar it would outsell the Mustang, 4 doors is obviously more enticing then 2 regardless of name to a normal buyer.

Because it's called Mustang. There's a big segment of buyers who want a Prius that doesn't look like a Prius.

Assuming that Ford can deliver the 2.5L Hybrid variant of the Mach 4 at or under $40k? Yeah, it's going to print money with general consumers who don't care about track performance, but do like the pony badge, 40+ mpg, easy car seat access, et cetera.

I wouldn't be surprised by the 4 outselling the coupe eventually. Right now though, there's at least 20+ Mach Es sitting pretty at the local Ford dealership here. 15+ Lyriqs at the Cadillac dealership. More supply than demand at the moment.

(whistles innocently)
I mean, my EcoBoost is the reason I'm interested in the GTs now. But I might be convinced to get a V6 Mach-4 (or an EcoBoost Mach-4 with Active Exhaust) if the V8 Mach-4s end up starting at $60K+.

But that’s where I go back to those other cars that still did well regardless of name.

I just don’t buy it’ll “save the Mustang” it’s just lazy marketing like @9secondko said. Again when Jim Farley just contradicted himself with; “We will never build a Mustang that isn't a Mustang. For instance, there will never be room for a small, two-row Ford SUV with a Mustang badge stuck on it. But could we explore other Mustang body forms – such as a four-door or similar? I believe we could, as long as these models possess all the performance and attitude of the original.” But they made the Mach E, the last part was just preparing for the Mach 4.

I sure hope a suv outsells the coupe in a couple years lol. Kinda crazy how well the coupe is selling next to it.

I have to disagree. If it looks identical to a mustang and has identical performance but has four doors, it's a four door mustang lol I don't have a problem as long as it's an actual four door mustang with the performance, engines, transmissions, looks.

I can see it now, Ford releases a four door performance car that looks identical and performs identically to the mustang and calls it a falcon, and everyone would complain "it's a four door mustang". 😅
Realty check: If it has four doors, it’s already not identical.

A two door sports coupe is not a four door sedan.

it’s not a complicated concept.

Do you know how massive of a mistake it would have been if Ford didn't call the four door f150 and f150? When it is an f150 with four doors.

And I'm sure there were people who didn't like that choice back then.
LOL

A truck is a truck. A coupe is not a sedan.

I'm not here to argue against or for porsches marketing department or what they do.
instead, your arguing for a nonsensical naming scheme. The Porsche example was brought up to show how a smart comp ad my does it versus a company grasping at straws currently.
