My Ford Pass app still shows DTE. As far as whether it should show DTE or the percentage of gas in the tank, it really doesn't matter which one they have set up on your app, some will want the other display.

Not sure why they don't have a setting to let you change it to whichever option you want to display. Obviously the programming will display either value, and some will prefer one over the other.

Probably because it's NOT the app that's doing the calculations to determine the DTE.

You do not have the latest version yet. Once you do you’ll see what I’m talking about. Your car shows DTE. They have always shown DTE. Why the need to change on the app? What purpose does it serve? How is it better?

Percentage applies to batteries, estimated range until empty applies to a container of propulsion when applied to an object that has the primary purpose of a ‘people/mass’ carrier/mover.

Before the bullshit (and inaccurate) DTE "calculations", we had a gas gauge with a needle and graduated markings. It typically had four to eight markings on it, indicating how full/empty the tank was.

Those markings were based on a percentage of the tank remaining (e.g., full tank, 3/4 tank, 1/2 tank, 1/4 tank, etc.), not a badly estimated number of anticipated miles left based on how you've driven in the past (and not on how you will drive in the future).

How the hell did we ever survive not knowing how many estimated miles we had left in a tank of gas?

How about: "When you get down to 1/4 tank, fill the damn thing up!"?

You know I totally forgot about that. I do not remember the last car that didn't have DTE. But you're right. 16 gallon tank, 1/2 empty = 8 gallons. Approx. 24 MPG x 8 gallons = 195 MTE. See I can still do it. I'm so proud of myself!

So in this futuristic age when computers perform automatic calculations we are forced to return to the age of gauge digitally rendered?

Since I have COVID and am in bed for a couple of days I've put some brain power towards idle thoughts; this being one of them. Back in the day I had a 79 Z28 and knew that when I opened up the 4 barrels, as well as the double tap accelerator opening of the intake flaps by the windshield, the gas gauge would move perceptibly on the highway.

The more it went down, the shorter the distance I could drive. That was my complex computer calculation!

I'm with @roadpilot on this. I am never going to use an app to determine when I start looking for a gas station. Once it's down to 3/8 I start thinking about it and by 1/4 she's getting a fresh fill of 93. Really I just like the app for documenting service (can't do that anymore...thanks Ford tech team ) and the updates/recalls that my car has received. The lock/unlock I will never use beyond the one time I tried it to see if it actually works. Remote start would be cool, but I have a manual transmission.

Technology is cool, but it can fail. As a private pilot I always take paper maps, mechanical flight computers, etc in the airplane because GPS and comms can fail. Nothing better than being able to use both digital technology and analog data whether on an app, in the car, or wherever. Where are my fellow Gen Xers?

Those calculations are wrong. The computer has NO idea how I'm going to drive while depleting that last half a tank. I could get 10 MPG or 22 MPG.

Thanks fellas. This one is actually a doozy. I had it back in 2022(ish) and it was basically a moderate flu. This time I have the "You Just Took A Punch in the Head from Young Mike Tyson" edition which has essentially laid me flat.

Took the train in to the office yesterday morning with a headache.
Left the office in the afternoon with a headache and a running nose
Got home and had dinner with a headache, runny nose and what felt like sore ears and throat

I died sometime over night, I just haven't stopped moving yet.
