I have heard several complaints about the amount of feedback the S650 offers the driver when pushing the limits cornering. Do any of you see this as an area for improvement? Has anyone looked into this? Are there any parts in the works to help improve road feel like stiffer bushings or steering mods?

Is it feeling floaty, tramlining, generally erratic or disconnected? Both steeda and bmr and a few others have modified or test fit their parts from the s550 to the s650, subframe braces, strut tower braces, rear irs lockouts and braces. Sometimes it just needs a proper alignment some of the ones from ford are not quite as correct as they could be. Tire size can make the car feel disconnected and floaty. The s650 has a faster ratio rack.

It's a general disconnected feeling where you cannot feel the road through the steering wheel. Described as a "numbness". It can be caused by soft bushings, too much power assist, poor assist programming, tire selection, alignment ect.

what wheel tire are you running? I had 18's on my base gt and it felt like that i switched to 20's and Nitto tires from the continentals and it was much better. Also added a bmr strut tower brace soon after and im going to install the bmr front subframe brace and steeda 2 point g trac brace.

The front end on my dork horse is mighty numb. Even in Sport/Track mode there is almost no feedback. Even my decade old luxobarge Audi with EPS has better feel. I haven't been on a track yet and I'm not sure I want to.

I changed tires and had an alignment (toe was way out) which corrected some of the instability at high speed, but overall its far from ideal.

Yes the car grips well, but I can't feel anything happening in the front end.

Throttle house had similar comment about the numb front end.

@135Hoser ..... Canada eh? So you own a 2024 dork horse. That might explain your problem  Admittedly, I have only driven a dark horse one time. It certainly outhandled any Audi I have ever driven. As for it's overall handling I would characterize the DH (unless damaged) as superb. Wild guess here but are you and PBB pulling an early April Fool's joke on us, by trolling the Mustang guys? As Arte Johnson who played the German soldier on the TV show Laugh-In used to say verrrrrrry interesting!

@PBBLASTER ..... what Mustang do you own? Without specifics of your vehicle it is difficult to offer advice.
I test drove a 24 GT with PP. I noticed the numbness instantly when entering an entrance ramp with some aggression. I chalked it up to cold track tires as that is how they are for the first Lap. I ordered a 24 GT with PP on June 24th. Then I saw some reviews like the throttle house one mentioned and it got me concerned. I am a mechanical engineer and a former master tech so I see this as a challenge to solve. I just wanted to see what others think and know about this issue.

It definitely needs to be addressed. I know as I've been adding the bracing its been improving but still feels like its got too much power assist going on. I do like the improved speed of the rack.

I have been looking at how the electronic racks work and there seems to be 2 options to reduce power assst. Reprogramming and input torque sessor. The former is out of my wheelhouse. The latter may be easier. We would need to fool the module into thinking there was less than actual input torque so it would then offer less assist.

I think it’s important to make the distinction between handling and feel. Like discussed, the dark horse and the s650 mustang in general handles very well compared to most cars. The lack of feedback is a different issue.
Without feeling the tires/road, you kind of have to trust that the car will have traction or the other route and never really drive at the limit. Most people will never do this type of driving. I have not had my car at the limit yet but will be at fords unleashed track day next month and hope to. Or at least have one of the drivers take me out so I can see the limit.
I hope you can come up with a solution @PBBLASTER. I am all for grassroot development and bringing new products to market! Maybe something like Steedas magne-ride tuner but for the power assist.

100% what you said. Lack of feel = lack of confidence. Will be difficult to push limits when you cannot feel them.

Steers just fine but feels sort of numb to me. I want to feel the wheel shake and fight me a little and it doesn't do that. They almost did too good of a job on it I suppose.

I think this depends on a lot of factors. I rented a convertible ecoboost back in July and found it to feel very floaty on the front end at higher highway speeds (80) in curves, but then they also had the tires at very strange pressures.

My Ecoboost premium hardtop with PP and Magnaride and proper tire pressures on the other hand feels very confident under the same conditions…
