I have a black Dark Horse it came with chrome lug nuts I asked the dealer to switch to black and they told me Ford does not make black lug nuts so they couldn't. Not sure if that's true but I ended putting on black spline wheel locks and it looks way better.

The NPP comes with chrome lug nuts. I changed mine to black. Ford does make black lug nuts and that's what I went with.

The FP lug nuts are by no means the cheapest option available. When possible, I like to stick with OEM parts for certain things. For me lug nuts would be one of those "things".

Chrome here on my Black Pack Stang, pretty disappointing TBH, Ford should've included them in the original build IMO.

I'll prob order a set of black lug nuts at some point to help "complete" the look in the interim coupled with the black exhaust tips that I got from Mustang Motorsport.

I'm still tossing up whether to get new wheels down the track too. I'll keep the black colour but for me the stock wheels style is a bit ho hum and not wide enough to fill out the guards - that's just me though. Will wait until I get through the Pirelli's before making a decision.

My ultimate goal is to make it a true US style Nite Pony with Performance pack extras we don't get on our Black Pack models here in Aus (e.g. black rear wing, and the Nite Pony wheels). Budget will dictate the direction I go cause the OEM stuff is horribly expensive here and non OEM aftermarket goodies are pretty much non-existent atm.

As others have stated, all Mustang's for Australia have the chrome jacket lug nuts.

I swapped out the two-piece chrome jacket OE nuts for black solid metal lugs.

Just a word of caution when selecting replacement lug nuts for these cars. I'm usually an OEM parts type of guy, but this is one instance where you would be better served with aftermarket parts.

The OEM nuts are a two-piece design that consist of a nut with a pressed jacket over the top. This applies to the chrome factory-fit items, as well as the black Ford Performance items mentioned above.

These jacketed nuts are know to rust from the inside and swell, which causes the jacket to spin on the nut and prevent the wheel from being removed. It's a stupid and unnecessary design.

If you are sticking with OEM wheels, look into McGard or Gorilla lugs. The ones below are what I have. S550 and S650 use the same lugs.

Will the black paint(?) scratch? Is there a protective socket?

IDK, I don't mind the OEM lug nuts. I have the black gorillas and I like them, too. Matter of if you want to brake up the black a bit and with the OEM wheels...

Over time, yes.

Just use the right socket and be careful and you will be fine though. I've had those on/of four times and they still look great.
