Speaking from experience, don't waste your money and time applying this product.

I used the Autoglym version of this product and it was basically useless, it didn't even make the water bead. These might come in an aerosol for "easy" application, but you still have to buff them, which will be time consuming on something like the Performance Pack Wheels.

For while, I was using a specific paste wax/sealant from Poorboys. This stuff smells delightful and does help, to a degree, in keeping the wheels cleaner, and also easier to clean. But again, the time and effort required is not worth the limited result. I'm sure you can imagine how long it would take to do four of those PP wheels...................

If you are looking for something quick and easy, in addition to the ability to coat the barrel without removing the wheel, something like Carpro Hydr02 Lite, Gyeon Wet Coat or 303 Spray & Rinse Ceramic Sealant will be your friend.

CARPRO HydrO2 Lite | Car Supplies Warehouse – Car Supplies Warehouse
Gyeon Q2M WetCoat | Car Supplies Warehouse – Car Supplies Warehouse
303 Spray & Rinse Ceramic Sealant – Quick Ceramic Coating – Water-Activated SiO2 Formula – 6 Months of Protection – Water Repellent Ceramic Spray – Easy to Use – 16 Oz (30262) : Amazon.com.au: Automotive

These products are spread and activated via a stream of water. Wash the wheel as normal and while still dripping wet, apply 4 to 5 sprays and rinse immediately with a strong stream of water from a garden hose or pressure washer. Easy as that. I do this every second or third wash to keep them protected.

IMG-3795.jpg

But all of the above pale in comparison to a proper ceramic coating. And in that I mean a high-temperature wheel specific ceramic coating, a regular paint coating won't last very long on wheels which are subjected to THE most contamination on a vehicle. Products like Carpro DLUX, Gtechniq C5 and Gyeon Rim are all candidates. But the one you want is Armour Detail Supply High-Temp Wheel Coating.

So, why this coating in particular. Unlike a most wheel coatings, the ADS coating is super slick and hydrophobic. It will also have much better real-world longevity. I have this on multiple vehicles now and it makes cleaning wheels so brilliantly easy, while also being slick and glossy. I find that 99% off the brake dust simply rinses off the wheel, no agitation required.

This is one of my cars with it....................................

I have even coating a lawn mower with it, because, why not...........................makes that easier to clean too.

Really Thank you for all that. I'll go over that when I have time. :-D

@DFB5.0 the spray on products appeal to a slacker like me; I'm a bit apprehensive about applying "slick stuff" to anything adjacent to my brake discs and pads? I take it you haven't noticed any degradation in braking performance from using the spray products? TY!

PS: Coating my lawn mower! 🤣

Those products will be gone as soon as the pads contact the rotor, heat and abrasion will see to that. So no, there is no issue in regard to brake performance.

Do yourself a favor get a good ceramic coating. Watch a few videos and apply a coat let it cure. then put on the car. I let mine cure and put a second coat on. Not necessary. This will make the dust just wipe off and or just not stick. Also do not use any LONG lasting silicone based tire sprays they are a nightmare to remove when they wear or your tire has a tendency to bloom. Their a sticky nightmare.

Is it possible to just put on the ceramic after cleaning / wiping down the rim pretty good? or does it have to be polished and prepped etc etc?

The 303 didnt work at all. Oddly the direcitons said to spray it on the surface while still wet. Then dry the 303 off. Which I did. 30 seconds of driving after that back to my parking spot from where I washed the car, the rims were pretty dirty already. Maybe I should have not did the directions, and just applied the 303 with a cloth and wiped off, like I did when I put similar stuff on my previous car -- wipe on the different panels and wipe off within 30 seconds after. That makes a lot more sense than to do waht the directions here said to at least to me.
What do you think?

You could just oder some custom wheels the same color as the brake dust. Then you wouldn't even have to wipe or wash them. Ever!

I was going to get different darker wheels. But i spent so much ridiculous $ upgrading the sound it would just be wrong to spend more lol. And it seems the 303 might be working. Wheels might have gotten dirty earloer bc i just washed the car. And maybe the 303 film wasnt totally cleaned off. I just drove 10 miles. No dirt.

I'm assuming the product you used was 303 Touchless Sealant?

Product Review: 303 Touchless Sealant – Ask a Pro Blog

This and similar products like Carpro Hydr02 and Gyeon Wet Coat are water activated, and water carried. For them to work best, the surface should clean, but still wet. To apply, clean the wheel as usual, while still wet mist 3 to 4 sprays onto the wheel surface, and a couple in the barrel as well. Then rinse the product off using a strong stream of water, be that from a hose or pressure washer. I highly recommend rinsing the wheel immediately after application, you risk leaving a residue if it's left to dry on the surface.

There are two benefits to this wet application method -

- You eliminate the need for a time-consuming spray and wipe towel application, especially on intricate wheel designs.

- You get coverage across the whole wheel and caliper surface without having to remove the wheel from the car. This is the key reason why these products are popular for wheels.

Do these products make a ceramic coating redundant. No, a coating will have far better durability, better withstand heat and provide meaningful protection rather than water beading. However, they do help make cleaning easier, and you will also be able to dry the wheel quicker when using a blower due to the hydrophobic properties it leaves behind.

A couple of application videos -

I'm not anal retentive about my vehicles, but I understand why other people are. Spending the second largest amount most folks will ever spend (houses usually cost more, but not always) especially when you're young, gives most folks a very warm feeling of accomplishment. This can be a driving force to take overly-good care of your investment. Until, that is, it gets its first dent!

One more point. If you're living and breathing day in and day out about a speck of dust on your ride, perhaps you should ask your shrink if you're OCD?

Seriously? Can I ask what you do in your spare time.................as in a hobby?

Everyone has a hobby they devote themselves to. For me, detailing is my escape from the world, the thing I look forward to the most. It helps motivate me, gives me something I can share with others, allows me to unwind, something to learn about. If it wasn't for detailing, I would have needed a shrink years ago, actually, I'd have jumped off the bridge by now.
