S650 Oil Consumption

I own a 2018 Procharged GT and it uses less than a quart in 5,000 miles.

My 2024 is approaching 3,000 miles and the oil consumption appears to be non-existent. The level is always exactly on the max fill line on the dipstick.

How is everyone else doing on their 2024+ GT's?

@schmeky7 ..... 2024 GT 5000 miles. I can see no movement on the dipstick no matter how closely I look, so I'd say no visible oil consumption. My 2014 was the same, even at 30,000 miles.

Mine probably burnt a quart every 1k miles until around 3k. It has been good ever since. 28k miles currently.

@n_123 and @Wiley Marmot ...... did you guys vary the speeds during break in (say the first 250 miles) did you change out the factory oil for full synthetic at some point? Did you start to get on the pedal after say 500 miles. A quart in 3-5K? I'd be freaked.

It’s more about varying RPM than speed but they obviously go hand in hand. I did my first oil change at 2k miles (should have at 1k, oh well) and then again at 5k with Amsoil. After that, I’ve done them every 4-5k. No reason to be freaked out, it’s just the piston rings setting. If it continues then it’s an issue. I haven’t burnt any since.

@n_123 .... interesting. Personally I don't like amsoil, despite all of the data they offer. My brother in law used it on his fleet of trucks. They all started using oil. It was too "thin" in our opinion at all of its rating points. He switched to another full synthetic and the use declined dramatically. Saw a lot of oil burning issues with amsoil. Built a high HP marine engine for a friend. We recommended he use Kendall racing, full synthetic. He used amsoil and it burned oil. He switched to another full synthetic and it stopped burning/using oil. IMO these 2024 Mustang engine's rings should be almost completely, actually for all intent and purpose, be completely seated leaving the factory, if not (unlikely) they should be absolutely seated after a couple of hundred miles of varied speed. 5000 miles and burning a quart. IMO something has happened for that result as that's neither common nor right. Something is off with either the driving style or the engine.

Oops! I meant to quote/reply to your first post not @n_123's. Meaning I haven't burned or leaked a drop so far (like your experience).

I did vary my speeds during break in (probably the first 1500 or so), and I had my OEM oil swapped out for Mobil 1 5w-30 (and a Purolator Boss 20 K full synthetic filter) at a hair over 3 K miles.

No complaints about my engine or oil consumption!

The way we broke in drag race/street engines in the past was to run them about 200 - 300 miles at varying rpm, keeping a 4K max limit.

Then you do some short full throttle runs to seat the rings in, and keep the throttle closed until you drop to an idle.

We did this 8 - 10 times spread over about 100 miles. Change oil and let er rip. Never a problem and no oil consumption (assuming good valve guide seals) with a blue printed healthy motor.

I thought mine had used a litre in 300kms from new. But it was just Fords weird dipstick arrangement. No oil use since.
Break in was my usual, moderate revs up to 4k till 800kms, then 6k till 1600. Moderate engine loading, up to around 3/4 throttle till 1000kms.
Oil/filter change at 2000 kms.
