As some others have mentioned the Stage 1 kit limits the throttle if it see's more boost than what the calibration was designed for. That as well as the rev and speed limiters on the Stage 1 is lower than what the stage 2 offers.

My recommendation is if you're completely not set on getting the warranty just go with the Stage 2 right from the get go. If you're on here, you're just like most of us and will want more power eventually. It will end up costing you more to upgrade a stage 1 to a stage 2 than it would just to have gotten the stage 2 from the start.

Let us know if you have any other questions and we'll be glad to assist you.

Thanks!

I assume upgrading to stage 2 from stage 1 voids warranty?

I had planned to do exactly this but upon further research, elected to just bump up. Mind you, most everyone giving advice on this stands to make $$ by recommending an upgrade kit… but it seems to be the reality that the stage 1 tune is intentionally (safely) limiting. That’s compounded by throttle body size. This was confirmed by both Whipple and some of the vendors.

The tipping point for me was the idea that stretching the limits in one area (pulley/boost), but not ensuring a similar increase across the board (air flow, software parameter) wasn’t worth the “risk.”
I suppose we could also argue that stage 2 and beyond will ultimately have more field R&D than stage 1, as more folks are actually tinkering and watching the data on stage 2. Therefore, more power = safer. 🙃

Correct. Stage 2's aren't eligible for the warranty. Only Stage 1's have the warranty option.

Does Whipple have an official stage 2 upgrade kit which upgrades all the necessary components (hardware and software) to make it a "safe" upgrade??
Here's the stage 1 to 2 upgrade kit. It's everything you need for the upgrade. I'm running stage 2 kits on my Dark Horse and Manual GT and have both of them turned up. I assume my DH is making close to 1000rwhp based on the pulley I'm running. Haven't had any issues with either car. As long as you use good fuel in it you'll be good to go.

As Lethal linked, yep… I’d ask what your goals are for the car/how long you plan to keep. We love tinkering at my place and never worry about resale value (foolishly), so upgrading is part of the party. If you’re daily driving, keeping a long time, and don’t have room to safely stretch the car out a lot - maybe not with the $$ and wear and tear. And, as mentioned, fuel type and quality - we only have 91 octane here, so we run ethanol blends, boostane, etc depending on the car.

just the opinions of a random fella who is not an expert… good luck whatever you do. This car is so surprisingly fun at power level! On that note - suspension work really, really enhanced our experience with the car (and becomes more important when you up the power)… something to think about. 🍻🍻

I have a Stage 1 kit in my car. It is completely stock: exhaust, headers, everything. During the install, I chose to go with a 3.75 pulley and a bottle of boost. I put down 713 rwhp. No issues or errors; the car runs great.

No limits on throttle or whatever they say happens? Are you still using the belt it came with?

from what i've heard, its once you try to go past about 12psi that problems pop up. i originally heard that it was a wrench light or something like that, but i've also since heard it could just be the bypass opening to prevent more boost. i dont know for sure, and i dont know if someone has determined for sure what happens yet

How much boost does the 3.875 that Comes stage 1 make? And how much boost does the 3.75 make?

Is 3.75 the lowest you went?
Yes just one pulley down. Never ran the 3.875 still have it but I assume pulley and boostane are good for 40ish rwhp as most stage 1 completely stock down to 91 I'm seeing 670's
