Update: It was an easy fix. I simply cleared the DTCs with Forscan and everything is good now.
Edit: Crazy me forgot I had purchased the full services manual for the car last week before I did the stud replacement. I've read through the sections on the parking brake, and it appears a reset of the DTC may clear the issue. I'm going to try it this evening, and I'll update. If that doesn't work, I'll try putting it in Brake Service Mode and taking it back out of that mode. I'm hopeful that will resolve the issue. I didn't put it in brake service mode while I was doing the work because I wanted to be able to use the parking brake, which as I referenced below, was a bad decision.
I'm checking to see if anyone knows a procedure, either using Forscan or some option with the car, to reset a parking brake fault?
Here's the story. I replaced all the wheel studs on my car this weekend. The front I was able to replace by removing the brakes and rotors, but leaving the hubs on the car. In the rear I had to remove the main brake and the parking brake as well as the wheel hub. Normally when I'm working on the car I keep the battery disconnected. However, this time because I had to remove the axle nut, I left the battery connected so I could activate the parking brake. In hindsight what I did next was a bad move, but I did activate the parking brake with only one side connected. The other side was removed from the caliper and the wiring to the parking brake was disconnected. I did this on both sides of the car. The parking brake did activate with only one side connected. Other than the parking brake cable, the only other item disconnected was the rear wheel speed sensor, which I removed from the hub. After replacing the wheel studs I reconnected everything.
It was late when I finished the install, so I didn't start the car up until yesterday morning. When I did it first gave me a "Parking Brake Fault Limited Function" message, then it proceeded to throw up all kinds of messages about Advancetrac not working, Blind Spot Monitor disabled, ABS fault, Drive Modes not available and likely several others. The bottom of the dash lit up like a Christmas tree. I didn't think too much of it, but just turned the car off and took another car to work. When I got home, I disconnected the battery thinking that would reset the car. I left it disconnected for about 12 hours and put a battery charger on the battery. This morning I hooked the battery back up and got the same message. I decided to take it for a drive to see if it would clear. First, I tested the parking brake, and even though it had the warning about limited function, it activated and deactivated fine, but the "Brake" light remained on. The brakes all seemed fine until I went to brake from about 55 mph when I could tell that the power brake booster was either not functioning or not working at full force. The brakes worked, but definitely not full force. I took it back home and parked it.
I'm definitely going to double check the parking brakes this evening to make sure everything is connected back, but I'm 99% sure everything is connected. So I really think the errors are a result of activating the parking brake while one side was disconnected, and somehow the system has to be reset. Does anyone know how to get it to reset since just disconnecting the battery did not work? @SSuperDave are you able to offer any guidance?
