Trofeo RS is a track focused tire that meets DOT for street use. Expect it will be comparable to the Michelin Cup 2 R. It was seen on the 992 GT3RS testing a couple months ago

I don't say this often, but that is one sexy tire. Beefy - like 888Rs.

If I get the handling package, i assume ill want to swap out wheels and tires for street use when not on the track. What does everyone generally do? Order a set of non handling pack wheels and tires?

Another factor is where you live. Alot of folks will buy a set of wheels and tires for winter driving. Some more track focused compounds will have warnings to not drive or store the tires under a certain temp or they might crack. My current goodyear tires have that warning and they have a higher treadwear rating than the trofeos.

I just stuck with my Cup 2s for the entire duration of my GT350 ownership. Got about 7-8k out of the rears and 10-12k out of the fronts. Then again, the GT350 had bespoke compounds that wore a "little" better than the ones on the PP2 and GT350R, and I'm guessing the Mach 1 received the same bespoke tires given all the other similarities.

Assuming these wear worse than the Cup 2s, I'd probably have an alternate set on stand by. I'd also look into the brand new RE-71RS tires from Bridgestone and just run those. But I also live in the sunshine state.

They're the successor to the RE-71R and are another soft, track-focused tire, but owners could typically see north of 15k miles on them while the RS supposedly made changes to increase wear properties. Problem is the RSs come in a max size of 285/19 right now. Not a problem for GT/PP owners but no good for DH with handling package which has 305s out back.

I’m a little confused then. The article I read showed these tires going on the GT3 RS with the rear tires being 335/30/R21’s. If that is the case making some 315/30/19’s should not be a problem. Better yet maybe 325/30/19, since the rear fenders are wider. Appreciate any and all info thou.

I bet these tires will make great magazine numbers. I wouldn't be surprised if some people wear them out in 3,000 miles or less.

I really liked the 300 tread wear tires that came on my 2016 GT350. Pilot Super Sports. They lasted about 12,000 to 20,000 depending on front/rear with mixed light track and street driving. I think that about 300 tread wear is a good area for me anyway. I prefer not to replace expensive tires multiple times per year.

And I wouldn't save them for the track, either. I'm not going for money prizes or anything. I don't win anything lapping a second or two faster. It just costs a lot more money in tires. Not worth it in my opinion.

Had to look it up: the Mach 1 rides on standard 255F/275R tires (PS4Ss?), and the handling package upgrades them to 305F/315R Cup 2s.

The Dark Horse adopts the same sizes standard (but on PZ4s), and with the optional handling package runs an identical series but with Trofeo RSs.

The GT350 has always had 295F/305R but switched from standard PSSs to a bespoke Cup 2 variant in 2019.

The GT350R had 305F/315R Cup 2s that featured your typical highly aggressive compounds from inside to out (unlike the MY19-20 GT350’s that was kind of half-and-half), and the Performance Pack Level 2 GT literally just took those front tires from the GT350R and ran a square 305 setup.

That's my gripe.

Bigger question is how the Trofeo RS compound stacks up to the Cup 2. One’s tried and true while the other’s relatively new. The fact that the other guy pointed that Porsche’s RS division is using this compound on their highest end models is super encouraging though.

As for the PZ4s I’m keeping an open mind. The PS4S is the goat of all-arounders but if the PZ4s stack up in the categories that matter—wet/dry handling characteristics and mechanical grip—then I think There’s nothing to worry about

Porsche tested the tire, but ended up going cup 2 on the production version if i recall correctly. In the tests I have seen, the Trofeo R has been lesser tire in dry traction vs cup 2, with better wet traction. Haven't seen much on the RS version.
