Incoming auto 2025 convertible. Ford performance supercharger and steeda suspension upgrades scheduled. No tracking. Has anyone done any transmission upgrades? Can the stock auto handle the increased horsepower/torque?

laserflorida,

Having more experience with the A10 in my supercharged 2018 than I prefer, I would say it's dependent on various factors.

With properly programmed shift timing and pressure changes, there is a good chance it can live with roughly 500 whp or less.

Over that with the stock clutch count and factory frictions and the life span, IMHO, will depend on how often you air it out. If you lean on it a lot at 600+ whp, then you may get 15K out of it. Maybe.

I have found a good alum transmission pan with built in cooling fins can really lower the temps, which I feel is important in the long haul.

Who sells the pan?

I put a RSA stage 3 transmission in my darkhorse as we are making over the 1000rwhp mark and know the stock steel and frictions would be at it's limit at that level. I think if you keep it under the 900rwhp mark the stock transmission "should" hold up pretty well. If you plan to go above that or race it at the track and want the best times possible a built trans and converter are what we recommend.

Let us know if there's anything we can help you with.

I am sorry, but absolutely no way. 900 whp is built ZF8 territory.

I've owned and raced several 10R80 cars over the years with 2 of them over the 1000rwhp mark and one in the 8's. My 2018 GT with the Whipple 3.0L that eventually went 8.64@157 had zero issues with the stock 10R80. It was only at the 900+ level that we were recommended to upgrade the steel and frictions as the stock ones start slipping in that range. If you're in there doing that you might as well do a converter which is what we did to that car and my dark horse. The 10R80 is a pretty stout transmission and handles quite a bit of power until you reach the limit of those stock steel and frictions. Granted a failure is possible as with anything at that level. Just sharing my personal experience with the 10R80 which over the years has been excellent.

My personal experience is my 10R fried itself to a crisp at around 650 whp after roughly 15K. No drag racing, just some impromptu roll racing.

Read quite a few Mustang and F-150 threads where they got less mileage than I did.
