I'm getting my first oil change on Monday at about 3500 miles, wanted to do it at 1000 miles but life and the dealership's schedule got in the way. From here on out will be doing it every 5000 miles. I know the manual says Motorcraft blend but I was planning to go with Motorcraft full synthetic 5w30. Just curious what others are using and why?

You will never get a unanimous, or likely even a majority, answer to that question. It has been going on in the forums for years regarding the Coyote. I've read way too many threads on the topic, but the conclusion I finally came to is to use the Motorcraft Full Synthetic 5w30. If I wasn't using that, I would probably use Castrol Edge, which meets the Ford specs as well. I don't think either are bad choices, but there are likely many other options which would be just as good.

I can answer this for you.

Whatever oil you pick, there will be someone here, and likely many who consider whatever you picked to be absolute rubbish.

Whatever they picked is the bees knees and everything else is cr@p.
You’ve got research articles? That data is completely irrelevant.
Used by F1 teams? Also, completely irrelevant.
Vetted by scientific laboratories the world over? It’s a conspiracy and still absolutely rubbish.

Getting internet forum advice on your choice of oil is like going to the local stop and rob where the day laborers are hired and hiring the cheapest one of them to perform your root canal.

That is the truth. If it meets Ford specs, then you'll likely never know any difference. I opt for full synthetic because of taking it to the track.

Motorcraft full synthetic 5w-50. Why? Because it's sterile and I like the way it tastes. Also because Whipple recommends it.

I think my Raptor was the first vehicle I bought that required either semi or full synthetic. The EB is wrung pretty good to get that power, so full synthetic from the first change. Ditto for my Mustang.

I _did_ see a +1.5hp at 11,800 rpm on one of my bikes, back to back, same dyno, same engine temp at the start of the pull <queue the team to point out that dynamometers are cr@p and inaccurate. Also, that’s not how you do it. Whatever.> Like @krisk said, you’ll likely never know the difference, even if you track the car.

I forgot, there will also be a dedicated group of posters who insist it’s not cost effective to run synthetic, just change the dino oil at earlier intervals and save money. :-/

Just be sure the oil has the certifications called for, right viscosity range, etc.

My recommendation came from a friend that used to race turbocharged cars with dino oil... and the turbo would need replacement/rebuild a couple times a season... after switching to mobile 1, his turbo would last all season or more. I know what I like in my Ecoboost!

The motorcraft 5w-30 synthetic blend from Amazon. I usually go by the mfg suggestion. This is just a cruiser so i have no doubt it will be just fine.

And i follow the DIC for change intervals

I'm planning to use Motorcraft 5w30 full synthetic, was just curious what others use. I do track the vehicle. Anyone have experience with a throttle body controller to eliminate acceleration lag? Curious if others find it worthwhile.

Mobil 1, 5w30 full synthetic and a Purolator "Boss" filter.

I'm pretty oil/filter brand agnostic; as long as both meet or exceed OEM specs.

I am not privy with racing 5.0s but would a 40 weight be better for track use?

Your baseline is anything that meets Ford's recommendations. If you'd like to exceed that, great.

I do believe in and use a full synthetic. Dino gets the job done, but synthetics are designed to support a specific purpose, in this case, engine performance or longevity, whereas dino is used for convenience and price.

Whichever brand and weight you do choose, be consistent. It takes several oil changes to remove and replace any engine oil. Changing brands or weights often results in a mix of properties. Long-term, you can select another, but I don't think its a good idea to buy and use the flavor of the month.

Regarding the weight, I'd follow the Owners Manual. Yes, you can deviate. Many do. But I have no data to support using one weight over another. A track-specific forum or chatting up people at the track could give some better insight.

On any of this, I make an exception for mods. If the engine is modded, discuss with the maker of that mod what they recommend.

Selecting a filter is like selecting a brand or type of oil. Opinions vary. When cold, the Coyote has a lot of pressure. Most owners use a steel or wire-backed core, to keep the filter element composition and spacing at its best. There are some filters which flow at a high rate or volume, while others are designed more to capture the smallest contaminants possible. More still, some filters are specifically made to use with synthetics and long service intervals.

Yet another variable is Ford's warranty. Many use only Ford and Motorcraft products. GT350 and 500 owners in-particular will many times favor Motorcraft. You don't have to, but by using items as specified in the manual, Ford cannot question that.

Whatever you decide, document everything well. If the dealer is accomplishing, great. If DIY, save receipts, make a record some way, for your own reference and warranty support.

Edit,

All that can help explain why there are so many threads on this topic, why there is no one answer. but if you use products that meet or exceed Ford's recommendations, consistently follow the maintenance schedule and document everything well, you'll be fine. :like:
