I purchased a non-premium Dark Horse earlier this Summer and later discovered that my nearly $65K vehicle did not have the native ability to program a garage door to open. I started using Home Assistant to detect my iPhone's location which would force my garage door to open via Z-wave relay. This isn't a home automation forum and it didn't work reliably... so I'll move on to a much better and easier OEM solution (albiet not the cheapest).

I called my local Ford dealer only to learn that in order to add HomeLink to my 2024 DH that it would cost me $550.00 plus installation (and this part was backordered) a new sun visor with the included HomeLink "3-button" configuration, and vanity lighting, that is actually sold with the complete 710a interior package on the premium version of my vehicle adds another $10-$15K along with premium features that I didn't want in the first place.

Long story short... I searched online for the following part number and learned that all S550 and S650 use the same part (black color), see below:

Part Number
Part Name
Price
Quantity
Total
KR3Z-6304105-DA
Visor Assembly - Sun
$355.15
1
$355.15

Ordered @URL: https://ford.oempartsonline.com/oem-parts/ford-visor-assembly-sun-kr3z6304105da

In the end, I am posting my experience to save you + $200.00 plus installation fees if you are like me and desire the ability to open your garage door with a Ford OEM HomeLink solution that perfectly matches your non-premium DH. This install is easy; it literally took 5 minutes to perform and was directly connected to my previous vanity lighting wiring.

I'm all for avoiding the Dark Horse "premium tax" when possible!
Enjoy your new OEM HomeLink button! #FORD-FAIL #OEM #VERIFIED-WORKING

I can second this. I did it last year after purchasing S550 visors off Ebay for $50.
Hey, great to know they’re just were many ideas on how to do this or where to even look for the sunvisor… I just wasn’t sure of the part wished I’ve known to look at eBay! Great tip! I didn’t know they were all the same. Thanks

I have a non-premium Ecoboost. Do you think that if I buy a used S550 visor with Homelink for $80 will it work? Do I have the required electrical plug? Is the whole Homelink module included in the visor or there is another module on the car which I might not have?

I hope you’re trying to be funny because that is hilarious! Especially seeing that your dark horse already has a home link buttons and you don’t how to use them! Lol

I would say most likely if you have vanity lights that you are probably good to go. But your mileage may vary… if nothing else you can just follow the post above and purchase a garage door opener lol

this idea also works for any Ford vehicle that has a version of sun visors with mirror lighting but without homelink, and a version with sun visor mirror lighting with homelink. the accessories guy at my work recently retrofitted a 2023 Escape with homelink using this same method

If you have vanity lights, then yes, this should work for non-premiums as well.

Yes, mostly being funny.

I actually didn't program my GDOs with the DH vehicle button. I use the MyChamberlain app on my phone.

Smart! I wish I had access to a garage door opener like that!
