Hey guys, first time Mustang owner here and planning on getting the whipple supercharger stage 2. On their website it says that it runs 93 octane. However, I live in an area where 93 octane is very hard to come by. Is it ok to just run it with 91 octane?

Nope, it will be constantly pulling timing…

you shouldn’t even be running 91 N/A
You would likely end up using torco or boostane like lethal and VMP did.

4 oz of VP Racing unleaded Octanium will get you to 93 Octane plus go to an E25 with 2.5 gallons of E85. In Cali it's true E85.

This is wrong!

There is nothing that says you have to run 93 for the stage 2. You will be just fine with 91.
They only recommend 93 if you want the stated max numbers with the standard tune.

Their tunes are set for 91.

Mr.Adam,
Is there a BP in you area? I'm sure they have 93. Heck the Speedway down the street from BP has racing fuel on the pump to the side of the standard fueling islands. Don't think you should run a full race full though. But pretty sure BP carries the 93 octane. I'm in Illinois though. Good luck.

I ran 91 octane in my Shelby Super Snake with a Whipple Supercharger and it worked fine, although it may depend on how hard you plan on pushing it. :)

Sidetrack question: Costco always comes up in conversations about Tier 1 gasoline as very good fuel. Is their 93 octane actually 93 octane?

You can run 91 octane but will see lower performance numbers. The timing table will adjust to lower timing with the 91 but adds timing back once it see's better fuel in it.

Let us know if you have any other questions in the meantime.
