I am all for having the OPTION of a EV mustang. Especially if it had wild horsepower figure, long range, and fast charging.

I will say though there is no way in the next few years we could support EV's only. I just don't see ford doing it.

You do need to specify the US in that, because as posted before Ford Europe will be 100% EV by 2030.

Exactly. I think it's great that the option exists. Given the choice it seems likely that more and more folks will move in the direction of EVs and honestly that's good for our grandkids.

I also think it's reasonable for the government to offer incentives for people to make certain purchases and not others. Personally I don't see how low marginal tax rates for the very wealth constitute Freedom! but giving the little guy a couple thousand dollar tax break to buy a particular car in order to further a given environmental policy is some kind of creeping socialist assault on the free market. Honestly, believing that either of those things are necessarily sinister is falling for one hyperbolic narrative or another that isn't being spun to serve our interests.

And as I said, I can imagine owning an EV, maybe even one to have fun with. But I buy Mustangs to satisfy a particular "itch," and if at some point they don't then I don't need to pay extra to own a particular car just 'cause there's a pony running across the grille.

What I'm seeing of the Mach-E looks pretty impressive, for that kind of a vehicle. I wish Ford well in the effort.

I’ve stated it another EV thread on this site and it’s a concern - fires.

This article touches on how a garage in Germany is now banning any EVs and Hybrids from parking in it, due to - you guessed it, a previous fire:

https://carbuzz.com/news/parking-garage-bans-all-evs-and-hybrids

I’m not against EVs or technology progression, but I think before everyone jumps into “EVs are the way to go”, everyone has to look at the big picture:

electrical grid support

charging stations needed with a universal “dock” and safe charging capabilities instead of it being Ford, Tesla, Audi, etc specific

fire suppression training and the tools needed for how to counteract such an event

disposal of and/or recycling of EV batteries in an environmentally safe manner

reduce the destruction of the earth and its precious metal resources regarding the mining of such needed for MASS EV battery production

I’m sure I’m missing some touch points.

Absolutely all good points. It goes without saying that as a civilization we've made greater adjustments in short periods of time as we transitioned from various technologies to newer ones.

Also, as far as getting away from fossil fuels sufficiently to make the necessary impact on our environmental future is concerned, solving the personal transport problem is - well, more than a drop in the bucket but not nearly sufficient. Saw an interview with Bill Gates the other day where he pointed out that the manufacture of materials such steel and concrete, and of course the need for jet fuel, are much more vexing problems which have yet to be solved in any scalable fashion.

Isn't that a manual? It's got the word "clutch" in the name. In fact, it's got two of them, making it a double manual :cwl:
What happens if you floor it in a DTC though? Does it still do the automatic downshift thing or does it lug till you paddle down? I think I need to drive something with one.

I wouldn't take one garage in Germany as an example of a problem. Plenty of ICE cars go up in smoke.

Some of the other points have been answered at length elsewhere in this thread. Safe to say the US is behind the curve on this compared to Europe and some specific countries where EV adoption is happening quickly. Norway would be a good starting point to see how these 'problems' are being dealt with. (54% of new car sales are now EV's there)

Ford are about to start making the Mach E in China which is also a huge EV market now.

That I don't know. I know it will let you bounce off the limiter like a jackanape, but I'm not sure if it'll allow a stall.

They drive like standard torque convertor autos with quicker response to requests for shifts. Pros and cons to both. Ford have dropped them in Europe on all but diesel cars and reverted to torque converters.

They drive like a normal torque converter. In manual mode they will hold a gear and not change up. they never stall as they disconnect the clutch at low speed. To the average driver they behave the same as a torque converter. Kickdown works the same way too.
