Uh, I want a stick shift in my EV too. Forgot about me. RUDE.But it will make Mik and Norm happy.![]()
Fixed.Uh, I want a stick shift in my EV too. Forgot about me. RUDE.
Why would an automaker not cater to one specific customer? Ridiculous.
Dangerous . . . I hope you wouldn't. Unsuitable? Impossible for me to say. But I need a better reason to watch Richard Dawkins than simply having a link thrown at me.I'm afraid you do lose out by deliberately refusing to watch a video without an explanation in advance. Have I ever posted a link to anything dangerous or unsuitable to you? No
I may or may not be losing out on anything important to me. Since I can't hope to understand everything about everything, I'm going to cut the time I do spend learning things to what I know I want to learn about and do as much of that learning at my own pace as possible. Which usually won't be from a 9 minute video that contains maybe one minute of value that has to be separated from the other 8 minutes of blah-blah-blah.Again your loss (whether you realise or not)
Key thought right there . . .That said I recognize that all change is not for the better. That's the change I take a pass on.

That's your choice. As far as this thread is concerned, paying for gas with cash today is no different than it was when I first got my driver's license and had to start buying my own gas.Haven't carried cash for years now - never use it.
$40 wouldn't empty my pocket of cash either.$40 of fuel wouldn't get you far over here !
I think we'd need to see things like torque curves and efficiency curves before deciding out-of-hand that an electric motor couldn't benefit from operating through a multi-speed gearbox. Optimum acceleration performance comes from keeping the rpms of the powerplant within a reasonably tight bracket around peak power rpm.The thing is electric motors remove the need for a gearbox in the traditional sense so you are only adding it to make it more like an ICE car rather than it being a real benefit. Adding moving parts for no reason. That is why nobody makes them !
EV's tend to fall flat at higher speeds because of their direct drive nature. Even a two-speed transmission would give them a lot more top end. Tell me you wouldn't love a pistol grip Hurst on a chunky 2-3 speed box.I think we'd need to see things like torque curves and efficiency curves before deciding out-of-hand that an electric motor couldn't benefit from operating through a multi-speed gearbox. Found this. Looks to me that you'd want to keep this particular motor running between about 7000 and 10000 rpm.

For now at least, the easy answer seems to have been to simply throw more motor torque at the problem. But at some point, maybe that won't be an option and we'll be back to trying to get the most out of the power curve developed from significantly less-powerful electric motors.
Maybe we won't see M6s and A10s bolted up to electric motors, but we might see transmissions with fewer forward gears.

It's like you are trying to tell me something I don't know ! They are easy to spot - they are mostly painted bright yellow !Of course not. They're just monitoring you in your car:

https://tfl.gov.uk/modes/driving/congestion-charge/congestion-charge-zone
...and constantly watching:

So you're fine with constant state surveillance, so long as it's overt state surveillance. Got it. You know, 1984 was a cautionary tale, not an instructional guidebookIt's like you are trying to tell me something I don't know ! They are easy to spot - they are mostly painted bright yellow !
Torque translates to acceleration, that is why EV's are so quick off the mark with maximum torque at zero rpm. Yes they run out of puff at higher rpm but most EV's have plenty of usable performance. PHEV's are probably nearer to the gearbox idea as they do run through the gearbox in some cases (but the gearbox needs to be there for the ICE). PHEV's use dual clutch boxes, eCVT's and some have the electric motor acting independently on the opposite axle to the ICE.I think we'd need to see things like torque curves and efficiency curves before deciding out-of-hand that an electric motor couldn't benefit from operating through a multi-speed gearbox. speed cameras = state surveillance in your head. Paranoia springs to mind.So you're fine with constant state surveillance, so long as it's overt state surveillance. Got it. You know, 1984 was a cautionary tale, not an instructional guidebook![]()

Porsche Taycan has a 2 speed 'gearbox' - higher gear for general use and lower one for performance - but to be fair at no point does that car lack performance !EV's tend to fall flat at higher speeds because of their direct drive nature. Even a two-speed transmission would give them a lot more top end. Tell me you wouldn't love a pistol grip Hurst on a chunky 2-3 speed box.
Not sure why you waste your time on here then ? Have you ever considered that I may have thought you would enjoy the short film? Rather than moaning about it maybe you should show a little gratitude that somebody from elsewhere in the world is actually bothered to share something with you that may cheer up your day. I will not bother you again.Dangerous . . . I hope you wouldn't. Unsuitable? Impossible for me to say. But I need a better reason to watch Richard Dawkins than simply having a link thrown at me.

Too many videographers just want to point their phone at their face and just rattle on . . . and on, and on.
